Vader and Force Lightning
I have wacthed ROTS many times and of course have noticed that Anikan gets his arms and one leg chopped off! I then went to my friends house and played the game and on the bonus level Vader shoots Lightning. My friends and I have argued continuously that as long as Vader has mecha arms he cant shoot Lightning
Edit: Sorry it was one arm and two legs if it makes anyone feel better I feel imbarist.

Quite simply, Game Mechanics. The designers put it in there because it looks cool; Dark Lord states implictly that he cannot use it, and is a far higher source.Jedi Guardian wrote:I have wacthed ROTS many times and of course have noticed that Anikan gets his arms and one leg chopped off! Yes, you're right. Vader cannot fire lightning because of his prosthetic arms. You'll notice that the only hand with which he uses force lightning is his natural left arm.Jedi Guardian wrote:I have wacthed ROTS many times and of course have noticed that Anikan gets his arms and one leg chopped off! And he got both legs chopped off.

If Vader ever shot out lightning with his mechanical arms its a mistake - various sources (including the ROTS VD) make it clear that his mechanical apparatus prevent him from being able to use Force lightning, period.
(Not that it matters, ,he seemed to develop some weird, DBZ-esque ranged attack by the time of "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" anyhow.)

Ah, I believe the only arm that survived Obi-Wan was the one that Dooku lopped off.Shadow WarChief wrote:Yes, you're right. Vader cannot fire lightning because of his prosthetic arms. EDIT: Yes, because we can see that the arm Anakin claws at the Mustafar "shores" with is mechanical.

IIRC in the RotS game bonus scene, Anakin is still his 'normal' self; he just defeated Obi-wan, Palpatine lands, and he fights the Emperor. Unless this is a different scene in which the player re-enacts the Death Star I duel...Connor MacLeod wrote:If Vader ever shot out lightning with his mechanical arms its a mistake - various sources (including the ROTS VD) make it clear that his mechanical apparatus prevent him from being able to use Force lightning, period.

And I thought Splinter of the Mind's Eye was non-canon?
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

Yes there was a bonus Death Star scene and you play as the classic Darth Vader and you fight Ben Kenobi.

Hmm, is it possible that Darth Vader may be able to shoot Sith Lightning out of his forehead, if he tried? What about his.. uhm.. member?
And, hypothetically, if he had an organic leg remaining, could he fire it out his toes?
I apologize profusely in advance for sounding like Kurgan or something.

IIRC, a Sith can only project lightning from the fingers. And I do believe the consensus on Darth Vader's penis is that it was crisped along with the rest of him.Cykeisme wrote:Hmm, is it possible that Darth Vader may be able to shoot Sith Lightning out of his forehead, if he tried? A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

I know I'm going to regret asking this, but how was that consensus reached? I think they should have come up with a better explanation than mechanical hands. Why can you only shoot lightning from your fingers? What about Dark Side Force users from species that don't even have hands?

Because any place else besides your fingers would be strange and if I remember correctly some guide says that if a jedi were to shoot lightning from a mecha hand it would backfire!Jim Raynor wrote:I think they should have come up with a better explanation than mechanical hands. I think the thread was flushed as spam, and to be honest, I'm not sure I remember how the conclusion was reached. Perhaps we should rehash the debate; but I'm pretty sure just being under clothes doesn't necessarily mean the part wasn't burned.Srynerson wrote:I know I'm going to regret asking this, but how was that consensus reached? He was laying face down on hot sand. Judging from the condition his front was in when Palpatine turned him over, clothing wasn't much protection as it was basically all burnt away by that time... not much way his weiner would've survived that roasting, eh?Surlethe wrote:I think the thread was flushed as spam, and to be honest, I'm not sure I remember how the conclusion was reached. Its entirley possible that that was a built in weapon system. Course that explanation begs the question as to why he didn't use it more.Connor MacLeod wrote:If Vader ever shot out lightning with his mechanical arms its a mistake - various sources (including the ROTS VD) make it clear that his mechanical apparatus prevent him from being able to use Force lightning, period.

If they had a arm intalled that he could shoot out Lightning then it would have showed this cool looking electro arm being placed on him in ROTSEnder wrote:Its entirley possible that that was a built in weapon system. My memory is a bit off, but didn't Luke use the Force to deflect this ball attack? Or generate a similar one of his own? Because I distinctly remember Vader being hit by this ball attack too, and remarking at Luke power in the Force.Ender wrote: Its entirley possible that that was a built in weapon system. except that if they could shield his arms from that more "natural" lightning effect, why couldn't that shielding protect against the Force-generated kind as well?Ender wrote:Its entirley possible that that was a built in weapon system. Darth Vader is the chosen one and therefore should have the required force potential needed to use lightning. When he lost his arms he adapted his tactics to fight in his new condition. For example he can use telekinesis without waving his hands like most Jedi. If lightning could also be generated without the use of hands he would have done that too. However as Jim Raynor posted this brings up the question that if hands are required what about species without arms. I think there are two possibilities here. One is that most of the powerful Sith Lords were all humans or humanoids. Force lightning may be a capability only species with hands could use. The second possibility is that force lightning is more than what meets the eye. When lightning is shot it might send a surge of electricity throughout the users body which could be very bad for Vader's life support suit. Hence even though he could generate force lightning he would kill himself the first time he did it.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

It has to be electro cause it means electronic sortened out and maybe it wouldn't be cool to some people but I think it would be like a jar of electricity and in my view thats neatSurlethe wrote:Jedi Guardian wrote:If they had a arm intalled that he could shoot out Lightning then it would have showed this cool looking electro arm being placed on him in ROTSEnder wrote:Its entirley possible that that was a built in weapon system.
