He was using his periscope, and there was a clear lock-on graphic before he fired, in much the same manner as when Chang's BoP was firing on the Enterprise-A and the Excelsior in ST6. Really, it's unbelievable that a barely mobile satellite within spitting distance should've presented an "extremely difficult" challenge, and it's even more unbelievable that his first salvo missed.OmegaGuy wrote:Well, to be fair, Klaa was using manual targeting.

One thing that soooo belongs in TrekMiss2:
Get Down!
Hmmm, it's a phaser beam!
Your auto-aim fu is weak, foolish gold shirt!
The funny thing is, I have it frame by frame, and really, it looks like the Individual-Borg didn't look like it even needed to move.

Observe the propagation speeds of hand phaser beams as ocasionally shown on-screen and think again. It's entirely possible to dodge out of the way with purely human reflexes. Trekmiss2 has several such occurences IIRC.LongVin wrote:Wow so its possible to dodge phaser beams by just leaning backwards. Honestly, Trekkies deride blaster bolts for being slow. At least those can't be doged without Jedi-reflexes. Phasers seem to be vastly slower than even arrows.Batman wrote:Observe the propagation speeds of hand phaser beams as ocasionally shown on-screen and think again. He indicated it was small and difficult to hit. The lock on graphic doesn't necessarily mean that a targeting solution was fed into the computer. He was obviously looking for sport.Vympel wrote:He was using his periscope, and there was a clear lock-on graphic before he fired, in much the same manner as when Chang's BoP was firing on the Enterprise-A and the Excelsior in ST6. Phaser speed is one of those inconsistent things so common in Trek.Batman wrote:Observe the propagation speeds of hand phaser beams as ocasionally shown on-screen and think again. No kidding. Doesn't invalidate the fact that at least occasionally phaser speed is that pathetically low.Kamakazie Sith wrote: Phaser speed is one of those inconsistent things so common in Trek.

Which is exactly why it's so silly. It's barely moving and is within spitting distance of the disruptor cannon.Kamakazie Sith wrote: He indicated it was small and difficult to hit.
At absolute least, it means he was getting a firing solution from the gunnery system. Whether it was automatic or manual (like the predicting gunsights on modern fighters when you switch to guns) it's still unbelievalbe it was considered a difficult target. The lock on graphic doesn't necessarily mean that a targeting solution was fed into the computer. He was obviously looking for sport.

Agreed, and he always struck me as a Klingon Captain with a lot to prove and no real skills to speak of. In other words....that Captain sucked. I got the impression that if Captain Kirk was looking for a fight that Klingon would have been an easy kill.Vympel wrote:Which is exactly why it's so silly. Hip-hip-huzzah. Trek-miss is my favorite part of your webpage, Wayne.

Maybe the guns weren't calibrated right?Vympel wrote:Which is exactly why it's so silly. It's barely moving and is within spitting distance of the disruptor cannon.Kamakazie Sith wrote: He indicated it was small and difficult to hit.

So can blaster bolts.Kamakazie Sith wrote:However, it can be faster. So why is this way, why is it fast and then only slow when people dodge? I think it's the way they shot Picard dodging- it looked very forced, and that's what they had to work with I suppose. I'm just speculating.Kamakazie Sith wrote: Indeed, but I don't recall any moving as slow as some phaser beams have. The one from TNG Contagion is just ridiculous....
They should have fired their FX people.

Klaa's an incompetent idiot. He never grasped the sheer idiocy of attacking a Federation heavy cruiser, completely botched his attack at Nimbus III, and crumbled the moment he got orders from the ambassador. Probably a kid with important parents who fell upwards through the ranks.Agreed, and he always struck me as a Klingon Captain with a lot to prove and no real skills to speak of. The Klingons must've realised this too, because by the time of ST6 he's a lowly translator (!) at Kirk's trial

Is it just me, or is that Borg a female? I've heard of them (well, aside from the obvious 7/9) but can't recall seeing one until now.Vympel wrote:Hmmm, it's a phaser beam!

the Borg have always been a mix of males and females but the diffencies have been so small that females have been hard to spot.nightmare wrote:Is it just me, or is that Borg a female?
