Battle of the superweapons

Post by OmegaGuy »

Okay, in a battle between the DS1, fully completely DSII, Sun Crusher, Galaxy gun, Eclipse SSD, and Tarkin battle platform, who comes out on top?

This is a free - for - all in a star system, but hypering to another system is not forbidden if the Sun Crusher blasts the star.

The winner takes on Centerpoint Station.

Depends on their respective shielding. The Sun Crusher could survive a fuckton, though, and being small, the chances are good that it couldn't be targeted by the DSII. And as for the Galaxy Gun, it can probably hit the Death Stars, but that's if they don't have shields up and can't concentrate their shields in front of the missiles in time. Eclipse is big enough that all it'd take would be a DSII blast, though its superlaser could create havoc on the Death Stars. Don't know anything about Tarkin.

Myself I think it'd probably end up being Death Star II...

The Tarkin was another superlaser platform. About DS level firepower.

Probably because they were never published.

Lets distill this down -

*Eclipse is a non factor. Simply put.
*Tarkin was a compound ion cannon platform based of the dialogue in the comic, only later sources made it a compound turbolaser.
*Galaxy gun is immobile, and its ability to damage is based of whether its missiles can slip past the shield or not.
*Sun crusher has the advantage of small size, but against something shielded its torpedos won't be useful. Particularily when you look at the shielding powers involved here. In the JAT it took a shot from the damaged DS prototype to damage it, but a sufficient number of TL shots could smack it around enough to kill it even though its wank armor won't let it be vaped. Momentum is a bitch.
*DS1 can't compete with its bigger sibling in terms of powr and shielding.

Not to worry. It was never really specified, IIRC, and being made for the purpose of destroying a Jedi hideout (not necessarily the planet itself) right after the CW, it would probably be of a lesser power than the superlasers that followed.

Depends Just how invulnerable the Sun Crusher's armour is. I seeme to recall specultion in JAT that it was completely invulnerable and could simply hyperjump with something in the way and the acceration would smash anything in its way.

Its possible but exceptionally unlikely that it could defeat all the competion like that.

More rationally it depends which planet killing super lasers shot at who and in which order.

If either of the DSs survive the superlaser cross fire, it can smack down everything except the sun crusher and its a dead heat for them.

They have even less of a chance than the Eclipse. Why would a Death Star allow one to nibble on it until it managed to build enough fighters to recreate the trench run?

Can either Death Star withstand a superlaser? They could simply destroy each other.

The only way the Sun Crusher could work is if it can gain enough momentum to literally punch its way into the reactor chamber of a Death Star and smash up the chamber. We know that its weapons, besides the torpedo launcher, weren't armored and could be destroyed.

I thought that the Galaxy Gun was a mobile launching platform, and was simply kept in orbit of byss for the protection it provided. And didn't the missle that had a faulty arming trigger go through the shields of the space station?

Did someone say Mexican Standoff?

(though the much shorter refire time on the DS II's superlaser is an edge.)

I seem to recall that it was noted that a direct hit with the DS prototype's superlaser would destroy the ship, and its weapons and comm systems are far more volunerable. And besides, you wouldn't even have to shoot it down; if it gets to close to one of the DS's or the Eclipse, they can just trap it with a tractor beam.

it would come down to the deathstars, nothing else is strong enough to do any damage to them...and assuming that they could blow eachother up in 1 shot, it would be whoever got the shot off first.

and it would be the deathstar 2 if their sheilds were strong enough to take multiple super laser hits.

Honestly, I doubt either of them could take a single direct hit and still function. Even though Alderaan's shield was able to momentarily take the blast, it was only for a fraction of the second. I doubt either station's shields are so much more powerful as to be able to actually stop the beams entirely.

Could the Sun Crusher really survive a Death Star blast? The energy released by a supernova detonation is indeed gargantuan, but it's spread more, both in terms of space and time. A Death Star shot is considerably more intense, and focused.

This is totally off topic and pointless (not to mention plain silly), but if I happened to be in possession of eight Death Stars, would I be able to arrange them in such a manner as to fire their eight superlasers at a single point at a precise angle, thus combining their beams into a compound-compound blast of incredible ownage?

What about the sort of mini-death star in Isard's Revenge? That was quite a bit smaller than the Death Stars, but IIRC was equipped with 8 superlasers of Eclipse type strength, and some gravity well projectors, so if the Crusher destroyed the sun, and this switched its gravity wells on, maybe it could time it just right to escape itself, but let the others be destroyed? Plus, as its smaller I would think that it would be less ungainly than the big DS, but I don't have any evidence for this, so maybe it could keep rotating and hitting them with its superlasers, giving each time to recharge before it refired.
Out of the lot, I'd probably go with the Sun Crusher because of its uber-wank armour, although the tractor beam problem is an issue.

The mini death star was a ruse, and was never built, or even in consideration to be built. It was designed around trapping an enemy fleet in system and using its superlasers in an anti-capital ship role.

My money would be on the DSII because of its new and improved superlaser, and its IG88 enhanced targeting system. The sun crusher may be able to make the star go nova, but it would be hours if not days before the DS would be in any real danger. In that time it would mop everybody up, and be on its merry way.

The Sun-Crusher only survived a "graze" from the prototype's beam, and even then it got spun around handily. Sufficient turbolaser shots can knock out all its guns.

I see no reason a Death Star's shields would be strong enough to shrug off a full superlaser blast; they need only be strong enough to withstand a fraction of the energy, since the range of the superlaser is several planetary diameters, and the cross-section of the Death Star exposed to the blast decreases with the square of the distance.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

I can't believe people are even considering the idea that the Suncrusher is really invulnerable and could pass through other ships unharmed at ridiculous speeds.

Actually it is shown doing exactly that in one of the Jedi Academy books, when it flies straight through the command superstructure of an ISD and out the other side, disabling the ship so it falls into one of the maws black holes.

Thats utterly retarded, but also on a completely different level than penetrating the shields and hull to reach the reactor core of a Death Star.

Wouldn't really need to penetrate the hull. All it needs to do is get by the shields. When the suncrusher fired its missiles at the prototype a good chuck of the thing was eaten away by the reaction but the it didn't have enough mass to sustained it. Now weather the DS1 or DS2 has enough mass don't know. But if the suncrusher can get at least a couple of missiles into the superstruture then either one is in for a world of hurt espically if the missile hits anywhere near a critical area.

But yeah it punching through that Star Destroyer was a bit over the top but then what can you expect form that arthor.

Again, either Death Star could simply grab it with its tractor beams (which are effective a significant distance outside its shielding sphere) and either superlaser it or bombard it with turbolasers until the pilot is jelly.
