GPU heat dissipation?

Post by Darth Wong »

At Tom's Hardware they have heat dissipation charts for CPUs, telling us which types of CPUs dissipate how many watts of heat at what clock speeds. Are there any similar charts for GPUs?

No, both because GPU makers do not publish their stats(THG basicly uses published Intel and AMD information) and because depending on distributer specific clock speeds, dissapation could vary.

I assume that you are still searching for a replacement to the overheating GPU of yours?

Yes. My current solution is to simply open the window so that the room cools down. This keeps the GPU from locking up (and I know it's a GPU lockup because the graphics freeze but the OS is still running underneath, as verified by remotely accessing its network shares). But that instant room-cooling system won't work once the weather outside warms up.

I can offer several solutions(I belive they were all offered in the last thread).

1) Get an aftermarket cooler for the GPU, probebly expensive and not that good use of money.

2) Buy a cheap replacement GPU, 6600 are under 150$ and getting a 6200(Non TC) is probebly very easy nowdays.

3) Opening the case, adding a small 80mm fan to get some air moving around the GPU, that should fix it.
