The "mystery project" that Jan [Duursema] and I have been working on these past few months has been announced over on the Dark Horse boards. It is STAR WARS LEGACY and it is set 100 years AFTER the events in NJO and the upcoming Legacy of the Force novels. In other words -- an era you've never seen before. Anywhere.
Randy Stradley on darkhorse.com boards wrote:There have been lots of wild theories bandied about regarding the "secret" project that John Ostrander and Jan Duursema (and Dan Parsons and Brad Anderson) have been cooking up. Rumors have ranged from a new series set in the immediate aftermath of Revenge of the Sith to the miniseries focusing on Quermian society and just what those long-necked aliens are doing with that shorter second set of arms under their robes all the time. (Okay, I admit I started that second rumor. Just now.)
Well, it's time for all of the rumors to end and for all of the wild, unsupported speculation to begin, Below is a peek at what's coming your direction this summer. You'll be reading about it shortly in Diamond Previews, and by tomorrow on many of the fan and retailer websites. But, for once, we wanted to be the first to announce one of our own projects (it seems fair, right?). So, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, I give you Star Wars Legacy:
And a sample interior page from Legacy #0:
Legacy #0 (25¢, shipping in May) will serve as a primer of sorts for the characters and settings in the Legacy ongoing series (which begins the following month). Rather than an actual comics story, #0 will be your handbook for a wider, wilder new galaxy.
Note that in all likelihood, the actual interior pages of #0 will be typeset in a more traditional book-style typeface.
There. That's about as much as I'm willing to tell you at this point.
Only 100 years? That's stupid. If they want a "new galaxy" they should set their sights a little higher. Hell, with only 100 years passing some of the characters from the NJO might very well still be alive. Bullshit.
Friendship is like peeing in your pants. Everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.
Am I the only one who thought he was in the fanfic forum when initially viewing this thread?
I have a *Very* bad feeling about this...............
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks
Nope! The first thing I though when I read the announcement was "geeze, this smells like uninspired fanfic." I still haven't been able to shake that feeling.
The "Twi'lek Sith" in particular looks like a typical piece of fan-art.
oh god, this thread does not exsist. It is merely a hallucination caused by a bit of bad cheese.
Looking at that "Cade" sample page my brain exploded. A jedi who's turned his back on the jedi way and become a pirate complete with double-barrelled blaster and tattos. Any more cliche's we'd like to add in?
I only take solace in knowing that, 100 years from now, most information about SW will be contained in some form of SW Wiki/CUSWE decendant, and people will never actually have to read all this crap.

It seems to be a reharsh of several already played out, known and previously successful concepts. In other words, the worst way of slow, painful killing of originality. Also known as beating a dead horse or cheapen the original stories.
It seems to me like it's mixing Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo into one person and have him go at the new, evil and no doubt still incompetent imperials, and the even more evil, new sith, who haven't learned a thing since. What's next, he's also got an astromech named R2-D2?
Damn them. Why can't they just stick with the pre-ROTJ time period? A great deal of recent material from it is quite good, if not excellent, and there are plenty of concepts to tackle that haven't been touched on very much. Simulatenuously, post ROTJ EU is getting progressively more contrived and half-assed. If you really want to do some future thing, why not wait for a few years, focus on the KOTOR and Imperial periods for a while, then move the story a few thousandyears into the future, where it might actually have a chance of being fresh.

They got Yuuzhan Vong Sith Lords and everything!!!!1111oneone And a twilek Sith Lady, too!!!1111122222"

Yeah, one could easily jump (arbitrary number) 4000 years ahead and tell some interesting stories. Hell, if they really want pirates and rogues, make the Jedi extinct.

La la la la this isn't real la la la la
WTF are they thinking. This just sounds like someone crapped the general idea out of their arse and decided to label Star Wars on it to 'guarantee' success.

It'll be THE R2-D2 who conveniently is still able to hack elevators and bridge computers to serve his master.
Or R2-D2 will be sick of serving whiney Skywalkers and has formed the new empire to wipe out all of the skywalker blood line, which will turn into remorse while remembering the good times he had with his masters, and then will sacrifice himself while single handedly destroying the *insert generic superweapon here* he's been constructing.
