Superman, also, I found Zone Alarm was hurting my performance when I had it installed, even with most of the options reduced or disabled. And instead of using three seperate IM clients, try using something like Trillian (google's pick for their software bundle) or Gaim (not GAIN, which is the devil).

Use a lot of filesharing software? Some, like WinMX and some BitTorrent clients cause ZoneAlarm's CPU usage to spike. Pretty much anything that sends and receives a large number of packets on multiple ports at once can do it, though.

That must be it. In any case, I'm not using it any more.

Here's what you need to kill. As always, do it from Safe Mode to keep it from "growing back."

Code: Select all

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dxvid] c:\windows\system\dxvid.exe /nocomm
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SurfAccuracy] C:\Program Files\SurfAccuracy\SAcc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Mpsoupa] C:\PROGRAM FILES\WKKDEYH\RINMQ.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DLuxde] c:\program files\siteicons\dialers\dluxde\dluxde.exe /nocomm
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ture] c:\windows\system\ture.exe /nocomm
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MPlay64] c:\program files\common files\system\mplay64.exe /noerrorinfo
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ms1src] c:\program files\common files\system\ms1src.exe /install
O4 - Startup: UCONTROL.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\F773C80D.WUT\UControl.exe
O4 - Startup: NetAssistant.lnk = C:\Program Files\NetAssistant\bin\matcli.exe
Here are some optional things you can cut to reduce your memory load. These are optional, but you can keep them if you see a need for any of them.

Code: Select all

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WorksFUD] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\wkfud.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Portfolio] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WksSb.exe /AllUsers
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WkDetect.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - Startup: WinZip Quick Pick.lnk = C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE
O4 - Startup: Microsoft Works Calendar Reminders.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\wkcalrem.exe
O4 - Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Logitech is not bloat, for some reason thats the name of the program to enable its functionality. It just has a weird lame.

The Backweb component is described as being used to push updates, but can also be used to deliver ads and spyware, depending on the vendor deploying it (there are more than a few, both legitimate and illegitimate). Logitech's use is legitimate, however (autoupdates mouse and keyboard drivers). It can be killed as bloat if you prefer to update drivers yourself.

WinToolS can only be successfully removed from Safe Mode. Attempted removal from normal Windows results in it "growing back." I'd make sure to verify that it's been killed from the Services menu after running HJT!, just to be safe.

I'll be damned if I can get the "O23 - Service: WinTools for IE service (WinToolsSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WToolsS.exe (file missing)" bit to stop cropping up. I've had it since the first time I used HJT! back in September.

Try this:
  1. Reboot into Safe Mode.
  2. Input these lines into the commandline (Start -> Run -> cmd):

    Code: Select all

    sc config WinToolsSvc start= disabled
    sc stop WinToolsSvc
    sc delete WinToolsSvc

  3. Restart into normal Windows.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Thanks, Einy, it's relieving. I do have to say that before that, I had tried scanning before and I had a a couple of pop ups saying I should contact the person from HiJackThis but I closed them too fast this time to know what the problems were.
