You are correct. I just tend to get uppity when the blanket statements are made. I know logically they only refer to the fundies but on the paranoid level I think they include all.Rye wrote:Obviously, but I'm sure anyone that actually claimed that would get their balls cooked tound here in short order.
Though honestly much the same can be said of any group of individuals, such as political parties, any hobbiest, any science. It's just the fundies always manage to garner the most attention.Anyone that does subscribe to the irrational epistemology and reverence of faith, however, is part of the same system that produces fundies. Insane religiosity is all out faith, all out suspension of reason, it is faith at it's most extreme, applied evenly and consistently, and, dare I say it, honestly. Ironically, the fundies are the logical ultimate expression of faith.
So an understanding that your belief in a diety is illogical is what leads to this kind of "magic=satan" attitude? It's the secularist believers that betray both reason and faith, they are inconsistent with their application of their epistemologies, because they know that ultimately, faith is indistinguishable from gullibility and delusion. Revere that state of mind enough and we all see what we get.
I see it from her point of view. She knows that The Great Evil is tricky and will use any means possible to subvert souls. She knows M:tG involves summoning creatures, therefore she connects two and two. I just think it's ridiculous.Yep, see it from her point of view though, she sees it as much an attack on her faith as you'd undoubtedly see anyone making fun of deities.
That's why you do it with your significant other or as an introduction to some other hottie who is interested and a tad bit gullible. To be honest, it would be gross with most people I've seen play it.As for Strip Magic... that is an interesting idea.

"Yep."
"But I don't have 20 pieces of clothing."

Too true, it is the abandonment of reason which causes this; if people stuck to evidence and discerning an outcome most likely to be true rather than working backwards and giving in to groupthink and delusion, this would be avoided.Captain Cyran wrote:Though honestly much the same can be said of any group of individuals, such as political parties, any hobbiest, any science. Nah, understanding it's illogical doesn't necessarily sway opinion about a concept one way or the other. It should discourage people from accepting it, however, if such irrationality is revered, seen as virtuous, and especially if it's given support from other likewise irrational people, along with other irrational views (magic cards = rape, for instance), that sort of madness can gather quite a momentum in someone's thinking and actions. So an understanding that your belief in a diety is illogical is what leads to this kind of "magic=satan" attitude?
It is, but you saying that to her is the attack on her faith is what i was saying. And it is, just like it would be if said about anything faith based. She's just using more faith-based arguments to bolster her position than you.I see it from her point of view. She knows that The Great Evil is tricky and will use any means possible to subvert souls. She knows M:tG involves summoning creatures, therefore she connects two and two. I just think it's ridiculous.
Well, it's an original idea, i'll give it that. That's why you do it with your significant other or as an introduction to some other hottie who is interested and a tad bit gullible.

Unfortunately it's not within human nature to do something like that. So we'll always have it. What we can only hope for really is that we can manage to keep those who do give in to delusion and the majority must be right from getting too high in the eschelons of power.Rye wrote:Too true, it is the abandonment of reason which causes this; if people stuck to evidence and discerning an outcome most likely to be true rather than working backwards and giving in to groupthink and delusion, this would be avoided.Captain Cyran wrote: Though honestly much the same can be said of any group of individuals, such as political parties, any hobbiest, any science. Ah, so the reverance of irrationality taken too far is what you were talking about. Personally I believe some irrationality (for example the belief in a diety but not trying to force ones beliefs or ideas on another) is not a problem and could perhaps have some beneficial outcomes, such as the idea of "Things will be better in the end."Nah, understanding it's illogical doesn't necessarily sway opinion about a concept one way or the other. I think I attempted to say the same, just not as articulately. It is, but you saying that to her is the attack on her faith is what i was saying. And it is, just like it would be if said about anything faith based. She's just using more faith-based arguments to bolster her position than you.
Hey, I work with what I'm given.Well, it's an original idea, i'll give it that.

Of course, now you can tell the difference between saying that all religious folk are morons and saying that people who think supernatural powers influence daily events around them are poorly skilled at judging cause and effect.Captain Cyran wrote:You are correct. Wait, now dogs play D&D? And Nobile Ire, how do you make those cards? I've seen people make Nader ones as well.

Well, people that would agree to that exist; but it does not necessarily have to do with being dumb.Keevan_Colton wrote:People that dumb?defanatic wrote:Do these people actually exist?Captain Cyran wrote:That's why you do it with your significant other or as an introduction to some other hottie who is interested and a tad bit gullible.

Hmm, it was on Court TV, "Forensic Files" I think...probably won't help much because there is likely about a thousand episodes.Davis 51 wrote:Out of curiosity, does this show have a name?Kitsune wrote:Watching a crime drama show and a couple's kid was killed by dogs.
