If he had only commented once on one of my posts I'd agree with you.. but that's not the case.. and him making a sarcastic comment implying my ignorance, then discovering I was right, didn't seem to slow him one bit.

However, I'm not whining. I was only defending myself. I merely said his post was as pointless as mine. Is this not allowed? Why am I the one being attacked for doing nothing more than him? Because despite SirNitrams assumption I do not constantly post about thinks I know nothing about. I miss-read one post, and immediately explained my mistake... and now everyone wants to hang me.

I'm not sure in what way photon 'heating' is better than proton 'hitting really hard'. Photon torpedoes would be better for cooking, perhaps? If you want to penetrate armour and break things, heating the outer surface seems less useful the poking it with high-velocity masses. For comparable yields.
I doubt photon torps use a single photon... and lasers use photons and even now we can pump more energy though one (laser pulse) in a split second than the entire US is using within the same period (that's how they simulated a star exploding).
Photon torps are... explained many, many times. They aren't involved with photons at all, in any way shape or form in operation. They're Matter/Antimatter reaction missiles. They would (realistically) achieve kills by hard radiation emission like any decent yield nuclear weapon.

Stark wrote:What determines interactability of photons? If both lower and higher frequencies are more interactive than visual, what is the factor?
It is the interacting matter. Photons interact with charged particles, and those particles are usually not free but found as electrons and protons in atoms. Certain atoms and molecules are more interactive with certain frequencies than others, but very high frequencies can always be absorbed, resulting in ionisation. It's not exactly a factor, but rather very many factors.
I assume it's related to density of the body as well...
Well yes, higher density generally means more charged particles to interact with.

Is it a statistical thing (density = more chance for interaction) or related to the size of the atoms involved?

Both, actually. These effects are ultimately quantum mechanical, so it will always be a matter of probabilities. Large atoms will of course have a higher probability of getting "hit" than smaller ones. A body that consists of large atoms that are close to each other (eg. heavy metals) will have a higher probability than one that consists of small ones far away from each other (eg. helium gas). Again, it also depends on wether or not the energy of the photons matches any energy levels of the atoms...

Then the most important less you can receive at 13 is to not blabber on about things you don't know about and to listen.

I asked a simple question and you guys turned it into a huge science party. What are you guys over 15 right?

Oh, my god.

Why would you even *ask* a question relating to subatomic physics if you're a 13yo ignoramus with no intention of learning anything?

Plus I just want to know some opinions and see what you guys think is better in speed, which hurts more whats the difference(since i'm not so smart I don't know if you guys answered that or not). Oh and maybe which is bigger to.

Are you learning? I mean, have you improved your understanding? These topics are easily researched, but if you're lazy like me you'll just ask relevant questions. Y'know, instead of breaking board rules by crying about people being mean.

Once again, I am shocked, appalled, and frightened by the reaction of someone when shown high end science. Anyway, this is more common than you've no doubt suspected. SLAM will eat you alive if that was enough to shock you.
What are you guys over 15 right?
....Yes. We have people who know what a BBS was, and how a 2400 baud modem sounds. We have alot of people who are alot older than you. And if you remember not to blurt out silliness, you'll be exposed to alot of things that will enlighten you as to the world.

Or you'll get dragged into the anal and lesbian sex references and turn into a deviant. Either way, we get to add one to our yearly quota.

For fuck's sake, if you want to learn something, then shut the fuck up and apply yourself. You do NOT learn a difficult subject by spamming up a thread and excusing your own fucking ignorance because of age; you learn by sitting down with a textbook, paper, and pen, and going over the materials carefully and slowly. Your "I'm a 13-year-old ignoramus, and I'm going to ask about subatomic physics and then ignore the answers because I'm 13 and stupid! Lalalala I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!~" is really getting on my nerves, because it bespeaks a plague I see all too often: the nerve to ask questions about subjects far beyond them, the cowardice to not try to learn it, and then the arrogance to throw the work several people have put into teaching you back into their own fucking faces, blowing it off because "I'm only 13! What are you guys, over 15??"

What an asshole.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Damn, even I'm older than 15, and I'm probably one of the youngest regular posters on this board.

And I'm still trying to figure out why he actually thought that everyone here was as young as he is. :?

Probably because most other board he frequents are composed of 13-15 year olds. I'm only 19 and most web boards out there are too young even for me, that's why I enjoy boards like SD.net with a much wider spectrum of posters.

Never ask a question if you're too stupid to understand the answer.

hint: if you don't understand the items involved in the question, you won't understand the answer.

example: a student taking algebra for the first time should know that he wouldn't understand anything about calculus.

He's not asking not to ask dumbfuck, he's saying if someone gives you the answer and you don't understand it, you're asking a question too far above you, and being a dumbfuck not learning the parts needed beforehand.

The problem is you're proud of being too stupid to understand the answer. What the fuck do you expect us to take from "Hey man! Chill I'm not that smart and am only 13! Huh who would have thunk that"? That you're taking steps to rectify your lack of understanding?
