What are your thoughts?
The most it'll do is follow the same path as Star Wars Galaxies, but that's giving it the benefit of the doubt.

At the risk of turning this into a anti-SWG thread, I agree with you. Having no jedi was the only realistic way of pleasing everybody.Stark wrote:No Jedi is a good thing. ST is (arguably) more spaceship-focussed, so I'd be surprised if they leave out space stuff.
Though in STO not everyone could be a starship Captain, and I think the developers are hoping that everyone won't want to be.

From what I've read, you might be put into a postion, and get stuck there. Like you might be forced into being the doctor of a ship if you choose medical field. Remember that in the show, everyone has to start in some field, you don't just get placed in the command field.Kamakazie Sith wrote:At the risk of turning this into a anti-SWG thread, I agree with you. People do get selected for the command field, however, Beverly did pick to be a doctor.Naquitis wrote: From what I've read, you might be put into a postion, and get stuck there. Worf obviously picked tactical...I guess that's one thing Starfleet might do right. You don't get to pick command...command picks you.

I wouldn't mind playing STO and choose tactical. The Captain is trying to ease tensions with an opponent and I just fire off all weapons. :):)Kamakazie Sith wrote:People do get selected for the command field, however, Beverly did pick to be a doctor.Naquitis wrote: From what I've read, you might be put into a postion, and get stuck there. Isn't there officer training in star trek? I might be pulling this from some old computer game (Star Trek Academy?), but I seem to recall this.Kamakazie Sith wrote:People do get selected for the command field, however, Beverly did pick to be a doctor.Naquitis wrote: From what I've read, you might be put into a postion, and get stuck there. Of course I see absolutely NO way of putting multiple people in command of 1 starship, unless ships are not a major part of the game. I mean, I hope there won't be any "Looking for Crew, have Tac, engineer. Miranda class!". That would be pretty silly.

There was some kind of officer training that Troy went through, and I think she did so because of what happened during TNG "Disaster" though I could be mistaken. I believe she did so because wanted to avoid moments like "So what happens to us if the containment field fails?"InnocentBystander wrote:

I imagine it'd only be for major sections of the ship....lol "crew needed...153 openings...I don't give a fuck about your qualifications I just want to get out into space!!!!"

I hope that major roles on the ships are manned by NPCs

Obviously, I was referring to key personel, Captain, Commander (maybe?), Nav, Tactical, Comms(wouldn't that be a fun role..), Science, etc.Kamakazie Sith wrote:I imagine it'd only be for major sections of the ship....lol "crew needed...153 openings...I don't give a fuck about your qualifications I just want to get out into space!!!!"
Being the Comm. officer could be great if you just wanted to fuck around.InnocentBystander wrote:Obviously, I was referring to key personel, Captain, Commander (maybe?), Nav, Tactical, Comms(wouldn't that be a fun role..), Science, etc.Kamakazie Sith wrote:snip

I'm actually looking forward to this game.
From what I understand, ships will be, at first, assigned to your character, eventually you can "ask to be reassigned" at a Starbase, etc. Eventually, once people get high enough, Ships will eventually become "Guildhouses" of sorts.
Myself, I'm aiming for multiple char's, one in the Flight Ops (Command) field, and one in Engineering/Security, doesn't bother me to much if I eventually get a Command or not.

ST online already has someone like the SW Jedi.. and his name is Miles O'Brien... the only enlisted person in Star Trek!Kamakazie Sith wrote:At the risk of turning this into a anti-SWG thread, I agree with you. But of course without all the superpowers but just about as much fame.
Back on topic however it's intresting to see how this game will devolp. ST has always been about the ships stopping off on exotic worlds, discovering godlike energy being's who are immune to everything but blunt heavy objects.
Needless to say that can't have you running around as a Level (1) Redshirt beating up Rabbits outside the Acadmey.

I also wouldn't mind controlling the transporter and transport random crew members (maybe even the captain) into space. lol
