Next R:TW expansion: ALEXANDER
And it's going to be narrated by none other than Brian Blessed!
It will deliver a range of historical battles, and the campaign itself, which will require you to subdue the Greek city states, attack Persia, and then India, just like Alexander did. Apparently, it's going to be ready next month.
It's going to be released as a digital download, it's a "bit of an experiement" on the part of CA.
This is from the March 2006 issue of PC Gamer, scans of which I obtained recently from a forum post on totalwar.com in the Medieval 2 section (the same issue also includes a Medieval 2 preview with some nice screenies).

I only have dialup! It'll be too much for my poor little connection. *sobs* Say it ain't so! Say it ain't soooo! *sobs some more*
Please tell me these same scans say it'll be coming out on CD/DVD. Otherwise I'll have to become R:TW expansion denied. I can't believe they'd do this to the dialuppers. I JUST CAN'T!!! *has to be escorted out of the thread crying*

Thats pretty cool. I like that more and more games (NWN is another example) are getting big content updates as downloadable expansions.
Content-wise, can't wait!
Plus, it's good to hear that CA got its head out of its ass and actualy recorded some new voice-work for the (mini)expansion. It was one of the major dissapointments of BI.

This means it's free, right?Vympel wrote:It's going to be released as a digital download, it's a "bit of an experiement" on the part of CA.
The guys that made Railroad Tycoon 3 did the same thing last year. They released a free downloadable mini-expansion pack for the game. It kicked ass. Bonus Points to CA for doing the same thing.
It's a great way to inspire consumer loyaly. If I had to choose out of several good games, I'd go for the game made by a company that is likely to give new content for free in the future.

The implications of this cannot be overstated.
"First wave velites: DIIIIIEEEEEE!"
"Caesar's alive-live-live...?!"
"First wave velites: DIIIIIEEEEEE!"
"Caesar's alive-live-live...?!"
That logic would make HL2 free along with any add-ons. I'm quite certain this will be charged for, just like anything on Steam. Blessed has to be paid somehow.Adrian Laguna wrote:

Not even a debit card? I have a debit card (not touching a credit one until I get a full job going), and you can easily use something like Maestro or Visa online. Failing that, there's always PayPal (hisss) or cheque.Adrian Laguna wrote: In that case I won't be able to get it. Even if I had the money, my only means of payment is cash. Too bad.
Tsk tsk Valdemar, it's Alexander, not Rome. So it'll be:
