Emperors rise to power and Foreknowledge of Yuuzhan Vong.

Emperors rise to power and Foreknowledge of Yuuzhan Vong.
My handy little theory.
I think that somehow Palpatine found out about the impending YV invasion (jedi sensing of future?) and realized that the OR had no chance against them. So he masterminded the clone wars rise of Empire/military buildup to prepare for the YV, and as a bonus declared himself Emperor.
And his long term plans were destroyed by the rebel victory. And the NR has been overwhelmed by infighting, appeaseers, and infitrators. Not to mention the YV outgunning the NR military.
So any way this is my theory and my little dream that the Emperor had the best intentions in his rise to power.
P.S. and why did he send his best commander (Thrawn) to the Unknown regions where the YV might have entered the galaxy.

More likely that he did it to help them deal with the Ssi-Ruuk, but I don't think that's the case, either. I think he's just an evil, sadistic bastard.

Most likely he knew about them, and had he been caught out early on, he would have said "But look at these!" Aren't they nasty! I'm doing the best thing for the galaxy here.

Also, the Yuuzhan Vong are invisible to the Force. If he knew about anything in the SW universe that was bad enough to attack the Galaxy proper it would have been the Ssi-Ruuk, or POSSIBLY whatever the Chiss have been fighting on the Rim for all these years.

If you read Rogue Planet, the Vong's advanced force have been nosing around the edge of the galaxy for decades. Rumors of somone big and mean poking around have circulating for quite a while in Unkown Regions. They, or at least they're infiltrators, are what the Chiss have been fighting with even if they don't know it. Palpatine very likely knew that they were coming and sent Thrawn out the begin subdueing the Unknown Regions to help the Empire deal with the threat. A prepared and determined force could have destroyed the Vong early. Also, the Yuuzhan Vong are invisible to the Force. That said, Palpatine's power grab was certainly not motivated by any fear of the Vong. It was simple lust for power and vengeance on the Jedi. He was a Sith Lord and all of them lust for power; greed is one the defining characteristics of a Sith. Palpatine grabbed power for his own ends. I do think he was aware of the Vong and would have dealt with them. They just weren't the reason he grabbed power in the first place.

No, the Chiss have clearly NOT been fighting the Yuuzhan Vong, otherwise they would have already attacked the Yuuzhan Vong bases. Remember, the Chiss are trying to get the YV to prove that their aggression by forcing them to attack (ref. Dark Journey). Once the YV DO attack, the Chiss will be able to counter-attack and potentially do significant damage to the Yuuzhan Vong. Had the Chiss ALREADY been attacked by the Yuuzhan Vong, they would already be counter-attacking.
You are right, the Yuuzhan Vong have been poking about on the Rim for some time (ref. the terrible Rogue Planet, Dark Tide), but they have not been engaging in combat. I find it much more likely that Palpatine had Thrawn out there to bolster the defenses of the Unknown Regions against the Ssi-Ruuk, whom he DID know about the whole time, and which worried him. I do not think he had any foreknowledge of the Yuuzhan Vong, or he would have been working on creating defenses against them. This he did not do.

I agree that they're pathetic (and they suck, literarily, as enemies). Remember, though, that according to the book, the Emperor made a pact (or... something) with the Ssi-Ruuk. Maybe he just didn't want to deal with them until after the Rebellion was crushed and young Skywalker was one of them. Maybe the deal was actually more interesting than it at first appeared. In any case, he obviously had knowledge of them, and had had.... dealings with them, at the time of the Truce at Bakura.

Guys I just want to mention, that there is no "unknown" area around the rim in the SW universe, that was obvious from ATOC. Whatever the books said about some uncharted area are over written

There were a couple of small satellite galaxies on the map in the temple, one of those could be the unknown regions. Considering how little sense it makes that they explored everything but this huge stretch of space surrounded by explored space that seems better to me anyway.Omega-13 wrote:Guys I just want to mention, that there is no "unknown" area around the rim in the SW universe, that was obvious from ATOC. The Unknown Regions are unknown primarily because they are controlled by powerful forces and have never been explored by starships. That does not mean that the stars cannot be mapped, which is what appears in AotC.
