Hardcore Atheist, I have upset people in this forum with my less than politcaly correct thinking about anyone with any religios thought.
I do not mean to offend but I am bitter and all out hateful against any and all religion.
In my opinion the world wold be a much better place without any religion whatsoever.

Atheist, and raised that way.
Which isn't to say that my parents said "There is no god", but rather, that they did not believe in god but I should decide for myself.
I never went to church with my family, and the few occasions which I found myself forced to attend a service with other family members I found it terribly dull and uninteresting.

I had many hours to reflect upon this fact last Christmas Eve, as my extended family insisted on going to the service not once, but twice: once where my cousin and uncle sang and attended regularly, and at the "usual" family church... where various members of same family performed musical numbers of some sort or another.Uraniun235 wrote:I never went to church with my family, and the few occasions which I found myself forced to attend a service with other family members I found it terribly dull and uninteresting.
At the end, I was left with more questions than answers. Namely: Sweet disco-dancing Jesus in mortal combat with the God-Emperor of Man, how do people rationalize wasting this obscene amount of time every freaking week?!

Loyal servant of his lordship Cthulu, the Great Old One.
Seriously, atheist, with an apathy towards religion.

I have to sacrifice a young virgin to Chaac to bring the spring and summer rains and ensure a healthy crop. Any AYVB members willing to volunteer?

Atheistic scientific pantheist, which essentially amounts to an atheist that recognises "religious experience" as something valuable and natural. I'm intensely anti-supernturalistic, however, and will go as far as to say it's safe to conclude anyone that talks to gods is nuts. I'm antifaith, and anti reverence for religiosity. I also think agnostics are wusses.
So I come across as strongly atheistic. I'm also definately not a humanist, since I'm misanthropic to be honest; humans eat themselves to death on one side of the earth, and die of starvation on the other. I would rather save endangered species than other people.

United Methodist, which is almost as liberal a Christian as you can get. We're slightly more orthodox than Unitarian Universalist. Speaking of which, I'm quite surprised there aren't more Unitarians speaking up. To be honest, I'm Methodist out of habit, and could happily go UU, but since Methodism quite liberal with a focus on reason, I'm not uncomfortable there.

Scientologist.
...
Just kidding.
Started out Catholic by upbringing. In early teen years, family switched to episcopal. Now my mother is agnostic, my father is Episcopal, and the only Fiscal conservative. Everyone else is (VERY) liberal christian, except for me and my brother. I am atheist, and my brother says he is not sure, (he's only 13).

Yet another catholic-raised atheist.
An Erisian Hymn:

Atheist and secular humanist, or a "bright" if you want to go with the Dawkins/Dennett term. Was raised Episcopalian, and I don't really have a problem with that liberal side of Christianity. (It helped that my pastor kicked ass.) I just don't go for it.
I don't have too many held-over beliefs from my Christian days, but I do have some opinions on "if I were a Christian, I would say..." sorts of things; for example, I believe that when the New Testament and the Old Testament conflict, the New Testament should be held above the Old, scripturally speaking. I also don't know why the hell Revelation is considered a book in the Bible. I guess my take on Christianity is kind of similar to Thomas Jefferson's. (He rewrote the Gospels, omitted miracles and supernatural stuff, and said, "This is what a really good book on moral teaching should look like." Of course, he probably liked the parts about slaves shutting up and not rebelling against their masters... but I digress.)
I can't really back up these opinions logically, though, and frankly I don't care to because I'm not a Christian anyway.

Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things... their number is negligible and they are stupid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

Thanks for all of the nice responses. I'm getting a good idea of the types of people who post here. I figured there would be a strong atheist contingent, and I'm not surprised to see a number of liberal Christian sects respresented. More than one Quaker, that is impressive considering they are such a tiny proportion of the population.
