Does Foo make dvds burn out?
Hey guys. I've got a problem with my dvd player/burner in my computer and I need some help.
The Problem: If a dvd (and only a dvd) is in the dvd player, my computer restarts.
A few details:
1. I've had this player for over a year and it's been well used.
2. The hardware and cables appear fine
3. The only thing that may have been installed on my computer may have come from my Foo Fighters "In Your Honor CD" from some sort of copy protection "virus" software, and updates to the City of Heroes/Villains game.
Does anyone have an idea as to what steps I may take to fix my dvd player. And does anyone have any idea how I can get the software off my computer that the Foo fighters cd installed.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
(Note: I could be off my rocker about the Foo fighters cd)

That CD actually was issued by Sony, but bears MediaMax rather than XCP. Take a look here for a list of current known infested CDs. MediaMax installs its drivers even if you refuse the EULA, so the only way to avoid installing it is to disable Autorun.
You can find a removal tool here, but it only works under Internet Explorer 6.

Thanks for your help guys.
I actually found out that there was a driver that was installed when I ran the cd.
sbcphid.sys
I had to dissable that little bugger in the device manager, then delete it from the device manager. Then remove the actual file from the system folder. Fun stuff, but my dvd's play again:)

Thats because that craps illegal here, or so i seem to recall.andrewgpaul wrote:How odd; I have that album, and it ripped to MP3 fine, just using Media Player. It seems the UK edition of that album has none of this mysterious crap.

Whoops, sorry about that.Datana wrote:That CD actually was issued by Sony, but bears MediaMax rather than XCP.
When two opposite points of view are expressed with equal intensity, the truth does not necessarily lie exactly halfway between them. It is possible for one side to be simply wrong.
