Would the Borg assimilate lower primates?

Post by bozman »

I know that this is a bit off topic, but if the Borg found a planet full of chimpanzees, for example, would they assimilate them? As long as they stayed on a ship or an assimilated planet, and had the collective to guide them, they could be useful.

And then perhaps the chimps would start to regain their independence and start a drone/chimp uprising that would result in the Queen having to bribe them with bananas and chocolate. It could happen.

I don't know. Can the Collective adapt to feces being thrown at them?

The Borg would either ignore them or just nuke the planet. That's all.

We see no use for the assimilation of a primative species, they have no technological or cultural advantage that is of use to the Borg.

Hehe, had to go Borg on that one.:P

The Borg do not assimilate what they perceive as inferior forms of life. Some species, like the Kazon, the Borg consider unworthy of assimilation. Their perspective is "why assimilate that which detracts from perfection?". Undoubtably from their perspective, primates would fit the "inferior forms of life" definition.

Then it becomes a question of leaving them alone, or destroying them. Leave them alone, since they are irrelevan to the Borg. Or destroy them because they use up resources in the universe that could be used for better things to come.

Agreed.
Leave them alone, since they are irrelevan to the Borg.
That would be my first thought, unless the planet itself is of interest to the Collective.
Or destroy them because they use up resources in the universe that could be used for better things to come.
They would only destroy those primates if the effort justified some goal directly benefiting themselves. The abstract thought of primates wasting the universe's resources would undoubtably be considered irrelevent to the Borg(if anything, these primates may one day evolve into a technological society that would benefit the Borg once assimilated). The primates themselves would be irrelevent. Only the planet and/or other resources would be of concern if the Borg needed them.

Ok, I could have phrased that better. I forgot that the Borg aren't exactly the most considerate of abstract thinking like that.

In one of the books shatner wroke, well the Gar-Stevens wrote it, they say that the borg Assimilate an outposts Dobermen, Apparenly it is a much more efficient design for deconstructing the Star Base.

They should be interested in all sentient life.

I think the Borg would go after a planet of primates, if not for them,
then simply for the planet they are on.
