Dyson Sphere VS Death Star

Post by Waddles McGee »

Which would win, Dyson Sphere or Death Star?

I think the Death Star. Sit out of sensor range, (or sit in sensor range to mock the people inside), blow a hole straight through, go inside and blow up shit.

The trek Dyson Sphere has no weapons, at least none that were ever shown. Why do you think this would be a decent versus match?

Hooray for double post.

Scifi, are you perhaps thinking of the Xindi Sphere from Enterprise?

The DS would win by virtue of having weapons, while a dyson sphere does not. It would take much longer, considering the sphere has so much more mass than a planet, but it would eventually do it.

Presumably, a shot into the sphere's star would produce a flare, which could cause serious damage to the sphere's interior.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

The Dyson sphere can safely b assumed to have inferior weaponry/defences to the death star, as the point of building a dyson sphere is to have it collect all the energy output of the sun it is around, so its available power is limited by the output of its sun.

The death star was able to draw upon reactors that could put out the energy that our sun produces in 7 milennia in about a day (to recharge the superlaser) thus giving it a 2.5million to one advantage in power generation.

Consider the sheer structural stresses the Dyson Sphere must continually put up with. Even a blast that would fail to punch a hole in it might suffice to upset the shell, and such instability would probably cause the placement of the sun to go out of position or otherwise behave in awkward ways.

This vs is pointless. As simply being a Dyson sphere doesn't say dick about what if any defenses and weapons it has this could be anywhere from 'DS wins with one blast' to 'Dyson Sphere can ignore DS until the heat death of the universe'.
This is like making an 'an ISD vs a starship' scenario.
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'
