Crais was NUTS!
Watch the later episodes, he really has lost it...
You're confusing 'insane' with 'stupid'. If Crais has something better weapon at his disposal, he wouldn't have hestitated to use it to kill Crichton.

Tibanna gas?

You're the one who clueless if you think Crais wouldn't use all of the weapons he had at his disposal.
CRICHTON: Captain Bialar Crais! Let's say you do kill me. What happens then? You think Maldis hands you a trophy and zaps you off to your ship? What's to stop you from bringing your command carrier back to this planet and toasting the whole place? Think he's gonna risk that? Come on, Crais. He may not even let you kill me. He may drag this thing out for years and then kill us himself. Is your vengeance satisfied if Maldis kills me?
CRAIS: No.
CRICHTON: Come on, Crais. Who's your big enemy, me or Maldis? Can you put your revenge on hold and start thinking like a Peacekeeper?
CRAIS: What do you propose, Crichton?
CRICHTON: A truce. We join forces and nail Maldis.
CRAIS: We can't even lay hands on him.
CRICHTON: His power can't be infinite. He's got to have some weakness. If we both stay calm and unemotional, he can't recharge. We could starve him out. Come on, Crais. This may be our best chance.
CRAIS: I agree. A truce. My oath as a Peacekeeper.
CRICHTON: Good. A truce it is. Now, first question is, how do we--
(Crais comes after Crichton with a chain. He dislocates Crichton's shoulder. Crichton fights back & Crais runs.)
MALDIS: What's the matter with you, Crichton? Are all the species on your planet this dim? It's kill or be killed.
By your reasoning, he's a rabid foaming at the mouth lunatic that would just jump head on and attack Crichton without thought.
And he wasn't that insane, he almost called off the search for Crichton when Maldis screwed with his head.
CRICHTON: You...want him to keep pursuing me. So if he brings his ship within reach...
MALDIS: Absolutely. He was seriously thinking of taking it home. Can you believe that? Now he'll never turn back. Deeper and deeper into the Uncharted Territory he'll go. And sooner or later, that ship...will be mine. And then...

(RYGEL grunts and then begins urinating over the crowd, aiming at D'Argo. The urine turns into gouts of flame as it touches the ground, which drives the crowd back.)
CRICHTON: Well, that little demonstration -- thank you very much, Rygel -- was fueled by the tannot root. The Others -- the ones who collect the tannot -- they use it to fuel that pulse rifle, there.
D'ARGO: Peacekeepers?
CRICHTON: Yes.
VOLMAE: No. They say they only use it for food.
CRICHTON: And the Peacekeepers never life, right D'Argo? Peacekeepers never lie? When the tannot is processed and mixed with the right chemicals like it is in Rygel's stomach...
AERYN: It makes chakan oil. Do you understand what that means? It fuels all Peacekeeper weapons.
CRICHTON: So this happy plant that you love so much? It's used to kill. They use it to imprison and to enslave.
Maldis is categorically not reliable in any way shape or form. I seem to rememeber Crais killing his first officer in order to continue the persuit of Moya. Disobeying a direct order from High Command. Maldis is lying. And you are distorting the facts. or did you not even read the full transcript of "That Old Black Magic" Act 1 Scene 5
CRAIS: And mine is to the council. But perhaps I can negociate for more time. Is there any other record of this transmission?
He's clearly given up
Heres a quote from the pilot episode
D'ARGO: We are wasting time we do not have. She is infantry. Peacekeeper Command tells her where to fight and die.

The hole premise of the episode was Maldis getting Crais all riled up so he would follow Crichton no matter how far he went into uncharted territory. Yes, Crais still wanted to persue Crichton, but not if it meant disobeying the orders from his superiors. After Maldis played with his mind some, he was willing to murder is first officer. Try to see the forest from the trees.

And I suppose military infrantry men don't know what sort of ammo to use in their weapons

Have you noticed the way the peacekeepers treat their technicians?

And that has what relevance to the Peacekeeper knowing what kind of ammunition goes into their weapons?
The fact that the millitary are indoctrinated to think that technical knowlage makes you inferior from (their usually artifical) births. She would not know, nor want to know such things.
Yet to see you present an argument in favor of NX-01.

So, she doesn't want to know what ammo to put into her own weapon, even though she knew exactly what chakan oil was. There's nothing really technical in knowing that cars run on gasoline.

She gets the magazine (hell the pistol one is good for two hunded shots) and puts it in. Her logistics people take away the old ones and give her new ones, she's a grunt.
Still waiting for an argument in favour of NX-01.

I see NecronLord is suffering from a bad case of the black knight syndrome. Look, if you have a problem with an interstellar race using chemical energy to power their weapons, take it up with the writers. But until they make so alterations like make tannot roots magical by nature, there's no way cannons using chemical energy will match yields with a weapon with yields comparable with small tactical nukes.

Are you really so narrow-minded as you believe that?
Besides, as I stated above, weapon yields aren't everything.

Command Carrier: chemical reaction

That's pretty lame evidence. Just because one uses anitmatter and the other doesn't, that doesn't automatically give the M/AM ship victory.
And you are forgetting the CC's fighters. They'll be swarming the NX-01.
Do you know how much energy you get from a chemical reaction. At best, it's in the billions of joules per kg. Matter-antimatter reactions are able to produce 9E16 joules per kg. That's seven orders of magnitude difference.

I do. You just piss and moan about it. I've proven that the range of the frag cannon are less than 50 miles and relies on a chemical fuel source. You have no argument against it. You lost. Get over it.

You have proven jack and shit.
You just don't know a) what exactly that oil is, and b) what exactly it is used for int he weapons.
Period.

Your argument amounts to a steaming pile of horseshit. All you've given us are sweeping generalizations about chemical and M/AM reactions. You have no evidence on the armor or shield of the CC. You have no argument on how the NX-01 will defend itself against the fighters of the Carrier (how many does it carry, Necron? I forgot)
You have no defense for the argument involving missiles and other PK weaponry except automatic dismissal. Please lower your WoI and open your eyes.

The prowler complement of a CC is unknown. But the fighter screen usually consists of about 20 in groups of 2-3. The CC also carries at least 6 Marauders.
