GTA: Liberty City Stories coming to console

Post by RogueIce »

Take 2 Interactive wrote:Additional products expected for fiscal 2006 from Rockstar Games include Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for a current generation console system, tentatively planned for release in the second quarter, Bully for PlayStation 2 and Xbox, two new titles for the PSP handheld system, including an all-new Grand Theft Auto, a title based on a new brand for the Xbox 360 and a sequel of a Rockstar brand.
YES! FUCKING YES! Now I can play Liberty City Stories without blowing money on a PSP! Assuming it's coming to PS2 but I think there's a very high chance that it will. So I'm pumped!

In other news, a new GTA is on it's way for the PSP. Hopefully they'll do the same for the new one (move to console) as they did for LCS. Because I love me my GTA.

How does GTA:LCS fit in, plot-wise with the others. As I understand it, the timeline is roughly

Vice City, 2, San Andreas, 3.

Not sure about 2, but I did read somewhere that it's the same character in 2 and 3.

"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"

2? As in GTA2? GTA2 takes places in the future. Like 2015 or something like that. And yes, it's the same character in 2 and 3; Claude Speed. Or at least, it's hinted that it is. The guy in the GTA2 movie is called Claude Speed, in any case...

Sounds kinda dumb. I mean the cool part about GTA: LCS was that you could play GTA on the bus! Its got the same map as 3 with a couple new features. I will be excited when the one for PS3 is announced though!! :D :D

I hear LCS feature one of the Guy's boss in GTA3 ( Never played that one) before the events of GTA3, how he rose to power I believe.

It goes Vice City -> San Andreas -> Liberty City Stories -> GTA Advance -> GTA3

Those are the ones pretty much in the same "universe" if you will. GTA Advance was a top-down GTA set in Liberty City, and from what I read it is pretty much the immediate precursor to GTA3 (for instance, 8 Ball getting arrested happens in Advance amongst other things, and IIRC the former head of the Columbian Cartel gets whacked, leaving it open for Catalina/Miguel).

EDIT: GTA Advance was released for the Game Boy Advanced. Forgot to mention that.

You could arguably place GTA2 at some point after GTA3, as the actor who played Claude Speed and "The Guy" from GTA3 do look a lot alike, and "The Guy" is mentioned to be Claude in San Andreas. So you could say it's what GTA3's Claude ends up doing after his adventure through Liberty City.

As far as Liberty City Stories is concerned, it's the tale of how Toni Cipriani, one of the GTA3 bosses, comes back to Liberty City and the Leone mafia after he had killed a made-man in service to Salvatore. With some other stuff thrown in.

And now that LCS is coming out for the PS2, I'll finally be able to play through the story first hand! :D

The only question is what they'll do with the conversion. From what I understand the missions are kinda short by GTA standards (owing to it's portable status) and if they decide to lengthen them (and possibly add some features to it) it may or may not affect how the story plays out. Which could lead to a GTA "canon" argument.

But we'll see.
