Campaign Update and Latest Campaign Map

The first round of the campaign has begun, and it's good news for the forces of Menoth!

The Battle of Fort Stonebridge
High Exemplar Kreoss vs Captain Victoria Haley [ Cygnar ]

The forces of Menoth struck quickly. High Exemplar Kreoss led his Exemplars and Crusaders against a key Cygnarian garrison. Captain Haley led the defence but by the time she arrived, the Cygnarian Long Gunners were pinned against their barracks, surrounded on two fronts by warjacks and Knights Exemplar.

Cygnarian Forces Rally To Defend the Barracks while Menoth Forces Advance To Crush Them

Haley's Temporal Barrier slowed the Menoth advance, while the Cygnarian Long Gunners fired salvo after salvo into Pcm 9:79's Knights, felling some, their sacrifice inspiring their brethren.

The decisive moment soon came. Haley's warjacks sallied forth, but were unable to prevent a massive countercharge led by the Guardian warjack Lazarus and fuelled by the warchants of Father "Wee Mad" Ando. Seeing her Ironclads in ruins, Haley fled the field, leaving the Knights Exemplar to butcher and wrack the Cygnarian Long Gunners.

Menoth VP: 10. Cygnar VP: 0.

The Battle of Blindwater Camp
High Exemplar Kreoss vs Vladimir, the Dark Prince of Umbrey [ Khador ]

Having sustained minimal losses, High Exemplar Kreoss drove his force north, in an attempt to capitalise on their success. Blindwater Camp was known to house mercenary forces, and Kreoss decided to either win them over to the cause or deny them to his enemy.

The Dark Prince Vladimir was already negotiating with mercenaries when Kreoss arrived. They made contact in a small settlement, and the mercenaries looked on as their would-be paymasters fought.

Vlad gathered dark energies around himself and sent his Juggernaughts and Berzerker warjacks forward. The enormous warjacks lumbered forward powered by his sorcery far faster than anything that large had a right to move. Menite warjacks suffered from the impacts but stood their ground.

In response, High Exemplar Kreoss called upon Menoth to smite those who had strayed from the path. Menoth looked upon the battlefield and drove Vlad's army to its knees. The Menites cheered and charged - in short order, most of the Khadorian force was defeated. Even the ensorcelled Doom Reavers, who had reaped a terrible toll upon Pcm 9:79's Knights, fell to this assault.

Vlad then showed the Menite forces why he was called the Dark Prince, single-handedly destroying multiple warjacks, slaughtering entire squads of Menite infantry, until finally being driven off. It was a victory for Menoth, but a costly one.

Menoth VP: 10. Khador VP: 7.

The Battle of Bramblewood
Grand Scrutator Severius vs War Witch Deneghra [Cryx]

Things were to get worse for the forces of Menoth. Severius' objective was to destroy a necrotite refining operation Cryxian forces had established in the ruins of Thornfall. An important precursor to this mission was to hold the Bramblewood, else the Menite forces would suffer Cryxian harrowing attacks using it as cover.

Things Did Not Go To Plan.

There was a hunter's village in Bramblewood, and explorers from the village had recently unearthed a mysterious artifact. It was being held in the town square.

Clearly, the undead had to be deprived of this artifact, whatever it was, and it was safer in Menite hands than the villager's.

Severius drove his forces forward with all haste, but as he arrived, hideous undead abominations scuttled into the square. Cryxian bonejacks!

They vomited corruption, and the first Choir of Menoth died horribly. The second Choir took up their chant, but they too died quickly.

Noble Ire, Paladin of the Order of the Wall, rushed to their aid, but was struck by a bonejack's Sludge Cannon before he could enter Stone-and-Mortar Stance.

Deliverer Captain RRoan hefted his Skyhammer rocket launcher and sighted on the offending bonejack. He lit the fuse and waited... and was blasted into pieces when the rocket exploded in the tube. Shrapnel killed two more Deliverers, and the survivors dropped their dangerous weapons and fled.

The Cryxians then concentrated their attacks on Severius himself.

A Cryxian Machine Wraith possessed a Crusader, that turned Severius' bodyguard Devout into scrap. A Stalker leapt over its remains and raked its talons across Severius' power field, draining it.

Severius exorcised the Machine Wraith from the Crusader, and destroyed the foul spirit. The Crusader then crushed the Stalker.

Holy Zealots firebombed the holy crap out of the Cryxian right flank, rolling it up. But their outstanding efforts proved for naught, as a Crxyian bonejack fired its cannon at the exposed and wounded Severius, finally killing him and rendering his warjacks inert.

The surviving Menites followed the Deliverers into retreat.

Menoth VP: 10. Cryxian VP: 18 (This was a 750 pt game).

Well, wounded. Ire will be back next campaign round.

Paladins have a reputation of being really difficult to kill to so I rushed Noble Ire forward to secure the objective.

Pity, they're not as unkillable when they're out of Stone-and-Mortar (which requires them to be stationary).

Severius, the Paladin & Deliverers were all units I'd never used before. So they suffered New Model Syndrome. :)

Campaign Round Two

Latest Campaign Map [Always Active]

Battle of Bramblerut Depot
High Exemplar Kreoss vs Asphyxious, the Iron Lich [Cryx]

This was the most boring, long and frustrating game of Warmachine I have ever played.

We played for over five hours and during that time, the Cryx player fell back, fired spells at my infantry, then fell back some more, fired some more spells, repeat ad nauseum.

Menoth is the slowest faction in the game. Cryx is the fastest. He called it a 'refused flank'. I don't think the term can still be applied when you've refused every flank.

After five hours of this horseshit, I walked my troops off the table in protest, conceding the map region but more importantly, being able to do something more worthwhile with my time.
