Reggie: Zelda TP not coming until fall

Post by Dooey Jo »

So, it is confirmed, then.
The Hylia wrote:Late last week Reggie Fils-Aime went on the air an announced on Spike TV that Twilight Princess would not be available until this fall. We've now seen the interview, and we can confirm that Reggie also insisted the game is still for the Nintendo GameCube, and that a definitive release date will be announced on May 9th at the Nintendo Media Briefing at E3 2006.

This should honestly only come as shocking news to those living in denial or those misled by inaccurate information, stemming from various sources in the community and on news sites. But earlier last week, Matt Cassamania of IGN revealed that Twilight Princess would not come out in the first half of 2006.

Now I'm going to go cynical and say that they'll announce on May 9th that TP will be released 2008 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Ocarina of Time...

Goddamnit, Nintendo! Do they actually want me to buy a PS2 and the two Castlevanias for it?

That's rather disappointing. I was looking forward to it being here, oh ... at least six months after it was originally promised to be released. :x

Well, I guess it'll be here eventually ... maybe ... sometime.

Just as well, I've got a gaming backlog I need to work on over the summer.
Don't hate; appreciate!

I pretty much expected it to be released some time around the revolution, which would have put it in the fall. The gamecube is at the end of its lifespan, it is in their best interests to use the game to push the revolution instead (especially if it makes use of the revolution controller, which there have been hints it will). With this generation effectively over, it will be hard for many people to justify buying a GC just for this one game, no matter how good it is. However, if they release it just before the revolution they can use it to sell the revolution instead. People with the GC can play it, and people without a GC might be inclined to buy a revolution to play it (especially considering the low cost). But I suspect very few people would be willing to buy a GC to play it now, not to mention in a few month. Zelda games are guaranteed system sellers, but TP would be sure to sell more revolutions than GCs. And with the reverse compatibility, they do not have to worry about betraying the fans they have promised it would be on the GC. People can play it on the GC and they can still use it to sell the revolution. So this move is exactly what I expected, it is in Nintendo's best interest to do it this way.

This is almost beyond being old news for me. I thought it was already officially announced months ago that the game wouldn't be released until Fall 2006...

I thought that delay only pushed it back to this Spring.

Any word on exactly what they're doing with the game that would cause it to be delayed 6+ months?

Further development and fine tuning, and also incorporating some Revolution-only bonus material.

Actually, that's completely rumor and conjecture. No official statement has alluded to bonus material and every statement has said that they're not delaying it to add Revolution game modes.

Nope, they just said 2006. IGN has it listed for April and GameStop June.

Nintendo is poised to pull a kindler and gentler DNF on all of us.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Nintendo said it would be out Fall of CY2005, then that got pushed back into FY2006, which for Nintendo runs from April 1st to March 31st. NOW Nintendo is saying that it will be out in the fall of CY2006. I don't see this so much as a delay, as it is a clarification on Nintendo's part.

As an aside, I was seriously considering buying a Gamecube until I saw the announcement of the Revolution. Then I decided to hold not get a Gamecube, but wait for the Revolution, operating under the assumption that the two would be released somewhat close to each other. Looks like that gamble paid off for me.

I predicted Zelda would be a launch title for the Revo. I just wanted to make that clear. I don't know if it was this board or another that someone said that was a stupid prediction.

I just wanted to say that.

I hope it comes out for Gamecube. I hope I spent 99 bucks on that piece, for more than resident evil 4, metroid prime, and twin snakes.

I wouldn't be surprised, however, if TP had Revolution features, much like Oracle of Ages/Seasons did when you played it on the GBA.

Nintendo has repeatedly stated TP is definitely coming to GC, they are absolutely not going to release it exclusively on the Revolution. Nor do they need to, the Revolution is reverse compatible so there is really no reason to make it Revolution exclusive after all the effor they have put into making it run well on the GC.

Usually, so they don't suck.

Seriously, if delaying the game only leads to further improvements, I can't see what there is to get pissed off over. You people need more patience, like me. :P

This is a Zelda game made by Nintendo, after all. At least one delay is almost guaranteed, and unofficial "estimates" of release dates are extremely optomistic. I do find it kind of odd how various websites make completely random guesses about when a Nintendo game will be released, then when those estimates turn out to be completely wrong fans blame Nintendo for "delaying" the game, even though Nintendo never actually set an official release date. I don't know if this happens for other developers, but it definitely does for Nintendo.

They did set a release date for November 2005, and then it really was delayed until sometime during their FY 2006, due to them wanting to add stuff.

Right, which is why I said:
TheBlackCat wrote:This is a Zelda game made by Nintendo, after all. At least one delay is almost guaranteed...
The Nov 2005 release date was official, and it got pushed back (as should be expected from a Zelda game made by Nintendo). The April 2006 release date, on the other hand, was not offical, various websites just made an insanely optomistic guess about the release date (which is also to be expected from a Zelda game made by Nintendo). People have every right to complain about the game being set for Nov 2005. That was an official release date that Nintendo missed by quite a ways.

The problem I have is when people blame Nintendo for the April 2006 release date, which Nintendo neither officially stated nor even implied. People are getting mad at Nintendo for a rumor turning out to be false, instead of getting mad at the people who started the rumor in the first place. I really cannot understand that mentality. If there is a problem, blame should be laid on those who are actually responsible for the problem. Nintendo was not responsible for people believing in an April 2006 release date. There is certainly no justification in accusing Nintendo of "delaying Zelda again", as I have seen some websites do.
