I was hoping they would win, but that has got to be one of the most brutal defeats they've ever suffered in big name tournaments.

And in the men's curling final, Canada stomped Finland flat in End 6, where they took six points. Final result 10-4 after 8 ends. Damn.

In the freestyle skiing mens aerials final, American "Speedy" Peterson got seventh! Quite surprising though with all the hype he created over his specialty Hurricane move.

None the less, gold was captured by Han Xiaopeng of China (Congratulations to them, it being their first ever for a ski event.) with Belarus and Russia getting silver and bronze. Impressive all around!

That'd be a 4-0 win for Finland! YESSSSS!!!

The final against Sweden is going to be stupendous, one way or another. This is so far the biggest achievement in Finnish hockey history. I just hope that we'll play a clean game to the end. That'd really be something, to win the Olympic tournament with all of the world's best players in it without losing once. The Swedes won't make it easy, though.

2 more speedskating medals, Cindy Klassen gets the bronze in the women's 5000m and Clara Hughes takes the gold - thats 5 medals for Klassen these games, 6 for her career, more than any other Canadian Olympian

Having just watched the match, I beg to disagree. He was quick to whistle situations, and he did call one penalty against Russia that was not deserved. It happened when a Czech player got acccidentally hit in the face by a team mate's stick and there was a Russian player standing next to him. He didn't see it, but turned around to see the Czech on the ice and drew a conclusion that was reasonable (almost always it'd have been right), only this time it was wrong.

The disallowed goal was a fair call. A goal must be disallowed if it is the result of a hit with a stick that happens above the line of the crossbar. It wasn't over it by much, but it was too high.

As for Kovalchuk being driven out, elbowing tackle to the head from such a charge, no question about that.

The judges sucked so much, but...

We just need to be stronger than any judge. I guess it would take years to get up to USSR-level hockey. But we will, oh we will take revenge, sooner or later.

Well, Canada's hockey team didn't get any medals and they didn't deserve to. Hopefully Canadians can focus on all the other athletes bringing it home with 24 medals (at last count). Hughes and Klassen have 11 medals between the two of them. Simply amazing. I don't know if we can do better in 2010 in the overall medal count, but perhaps the men's hockey team can make a better showing.

Hats off to all the athletes competing in the Olympics.

Probably an impossible task, because so many of the other teams have gotten comparably much better than they were back in those days. That's why you rarely see such lopsided scores for games with the big nations. Back in the days of the USSR, Finland for example was on par with what Austria and Germany are today (in comparison with present-day Finland, Sweden and Canada et al), so we got curbstomped more often than not.

By the way, a question for aour Russian posters: What is it with that misshapen goblin of a violinist, Edvin Marton, that tags along behind the Russian figure skating team and insists on fucking up every single fucking figure skating exhibition event by intruding to the ice and stealing time from the actual skaters? About the only possible reason I can come up with is that he's Plushenko's boyfriend and he gets the limelight as a nod to Plushenko. I know Plushenko is married and even has a kid, but that doesn't mean much. It's started to get really fucking annoying to see that asshole getting enough time during the exhibitions that all the silver medalists could do extra short programs, when he has nothing to do with figure skating.

And if that little git's appearances are indeed tied to Plushenko, his quitting from figure skating can't come too soon.
