The rumors about remakes or just bullshit. I know there are some fans that want to see it remade but it aint gonna happen. McCallum and Lucas have confirmed that they have plans to release digitally-projected 3D version of the films starting in 2007 with one film every year, and there's going to be a 3D animated expanded clone wars series and a 1 live-action series, but that's pretty much it as far as anyone knows.

So you are saying they are going to re-do the series digitally again, just like they did in the 90's? I wouldn't mind that, just don't add scenes like they did last time. And make Han shoot first. His head looks like it's falling off when he jerks it.
Please forgive any idiotic comments, stupid observations, or dumb questions in above post, for I am but a college student with little real world experience.

Would it have been a better idea to, instead of showing a blaster bolt fly from Greedo's gun, Lucas added a scene in first-person view-- Han's-- to show Greedo's finger tightening around the trigger? That way, he can have Han shoot first without making him seem like a murderer-- the reason Lucas changed that scene, if my memory of old 'Newsweek' interviews is correct.Cos Dashit wrote:The whole "Han Shot First" thing was before my time. I was going to say I'd convert my VHS copies of the original SW to mpegs but then realised even my VHS collection is Special Edition.. I'm not sure I've still got my originals that I taped off TV years ago.. OMFG I might not have the originals!Cos Dashit wrote:So you are saying they are going to re-do the series digitally again, just like they did in the 90's? I'm off to look for some razor blades...
I believe you are correct regarding Lucas' motives there, but the general fan opinion, to my experience, is that any change at all was unnecessary and possibly even a bit insulting. Greedo's dialogue with Han clearly establishes that a) Han and Greedo know each other, b) Greedo is no Boy Scout, and c) Greedo intends to whack Han whether Han can pay Jabba or not. All things considered, Han seemed fully justified to me and I dare say to most in the original cut.Sidewinder wrote:Would it have been a better idea to, instead of showing a blaster bolt fly from Greedo's gun, Lucas added a scene in first-person view-- Han's-- to show Greedo's finger tightening around the trigger? If this was Wild Bill Hitchcock in a court in the west he would have been justified in shooting Greedo under the table because of the fact that Greedo had a gun pointed at him. That's alway how I saw the scene.
Greedo had a gun pointed at Han and still let Han pul his gun. Han fired in self defense against some one who had backed him into a corner with obvious intent to kill Han.
It Lucas now fearing the whole Good Guys(which Han is hardly) don't fire with out being fired at first. Ask any Cop what happens to you if you point a gun at a cop and you don't lower your gun after you let the cop get his gun out of the holster.
That's right, Bullet in the head

All i heard is that they are refilming it so it will work in 3D (ie. go to movies and wear 3D glasses)Cos Dashit wrote:I've heard rumor that Lucas is planning to do SW episodes 4-6 over again with new actors, better visuals, the works. If he did, would you be against it or for it? Why or why not? (I sound like a textbook.)
Personally I would be for it, only if he didn't add anything to the story except for better looks.
As for diffrent actors thats the stupidest thing i ever heard, i mean really, the world knows Mark Hamill as Luke and so on and so on, then we would have books with diffrent Luke on the cover.... it would be a mess

You don't have to refilm something to give it a 3D treatment.Tychu wrote:All i heard is that they are refilming it so it will work in 3D (ie. go to movies and wear 3D glasses)Cos Dashit wrote:I've heard rumor that Lucas is planning to do SW episodes 4-6 over again with new actors, better visuals, the works. I am totally against that. A 3-D Star Wars? That would just be plain embarrasing. Are they trying to appeal to 4-year-olds or something?Tychu wrote:All i heard is that they are refilming it so it will work in 3D (ie. go to movies and wear 3D glasses)

It doesn't look as bad as it has in the past, but speaking as a CG artist, it's still painfully obvious it's fake. There's just a subtle wrongness to them, something in the lighting or textures. I think mostly they look too clean and artificial, without the expected dirt/imperfections. They're nice for blowing stuff up, but they don't have the same presence on-screen as the old models.

They won't need to re-film it to make it 3D. Rick McAllum said there is some company that can make 2D images into 3D images, and that they had done a test for them using a few minutes of footage from ANH.
The type of 3D that they are talking about is not the goofy red and blue glasses stuff in films like Sharkboy and Lavagirl or Spy Kids, we're talking the same concept used in 3D IMAX films like Magnificant Desolation and Aliens of the Deep. You where clear glasses and the image is in full color and looks amazing. When I first heard of a 3D Star Wars I wasn't sure what to think, but then I saw some 3D IMAX films and knew Lucas and Cameron are so excited about. Needless to say, if you are skeptical of this sort of thing, check out a 3D IMAX film.
I think the changes to the Greedo scene actually have the opposite effect than what Lucas intended. Greedo was already pretty wimpy as far as bounty hunters go (he has one gun and no armor, while all the other kids are like the ultimate survivalists from hell) but now in the SE we find out his gun is so crappy it can barely leave a mark on the wall, while Han carries around this handheld cannon that barbeque a Stormtrooper AND bury his fried corpse with the ceiling above him in one shot. Greedo is not even a credible threat to Solo anymore. Now he's a kid with a BB gun threatening a man with a grenade launcher.

Actually, the 3D Rodreguiz films don't require red/blue glasses to be viewed properly. It's just that movie theaters are cheapskates and won't provide the better stuff.JediToren wrote: The type of 3D that they are talking about is not the goofy red and blue glasses stuff in films like Sharkboy and Lavagirl or Spy Kids, we're talking the same concept used in 3D IMAX films like Magnificant Desolation and Aliens of the Deep.

I heard a rumor that Episodes 4-6 were going to be re-created with photo-realistic CGI. Also that Episodes 7-12 were going to be made after that with casting roles being given to fans.

Question for the Warsies: Was Greedo ever actually defined as a Bounty Hunter in film or expanded canon by more than his actions? I think I vaguely recall the action figure packaging saying so, but on screen I always got more of the impression that Greedo was one of Jabba's regular guys but that he could, and more importantly would, blow Han away first and collect the bounty himself above and beyond his normal salary, for three reasons:JediToren wrote:I think the changes to the Greedo scene actually have the opposite effect than what Lucas intended. 1) Greedo and Han seem to know each other.
2) The equipment gap that JediToren mentioned above; Even crappy bounty hunters with no lines carry better gear.
3) Greedo shows up at the seedy bar on Tatooine that Han's laying low at and goes at him with a halfass plan, like he either drinks there and saw Han or knows the locals well and got a tipoff than left him little prep time.
So: Do we ever see Greedo actually chasing after someone freelance in the expanded canon, or would the Jabba's Opportunistic Leg-Breaker theory hold water at all?

I believe the EU one-notes Rodians as mostly in the bounty hunter profession or else the entertainment business (thanks to the female Greeda (?) dancer in the ROTJ:SE). Though it's been a long time so perhaps the stereotype (hopefully) has been broken...

According to one of the 'Tales...' short story collections (I forgot which one), Greedo was a member of a Rodian clan that lost a civil war. Afterwards, he became an apprentice to another bounty hunter who was paid by the winners of this Rodian civil war to kill Greedo without leaving evidence that they're responsible. Greedo's master ordered him to collect the bounty for Solo-- who caught a young Greedo for stealing, and publicly humiliated the Rodian in the past-- expecting Greedo to get killed.Raw Shark wrote:Question for the Warsies: Was Greedo ever actually defined as a Bounty Hunter in film or expanded canon by more than his actions? As for Greedo's skills as a bounty hunter, one of the 'Star Wars Tales' comic books portrays him as a reasonably competent bounty hunter with wicked knife-throwing skills, but the canon status of 'Star Wars Tales' are themselves questionable.
