I like the cluster idea, but only 2,000 pts? 5,000 makes it more varied and interesting, in my view. And I kinda like it when stars explode, personally, but that's just my own strange preference and has no bearing on the game.

Keeping the event severity at high is a good idea, trust me. Event frequency is relatively high in this mod.

Creating the race is half the fun, especially with Adamant Mod. It's all in the racial traits.

If you need help max/minning there's some info here

For the rest... well Trog probably knows more than me about Adamant specific racial traits, but I would take "normal" race unless you want to be up for a challenge. Pirates and Nomads can't colonize worlds. Pirates have a perfect cloak, and Nomads have -99% maintainence. But not being able to colonize worlds means you'll be in the back unless you're really an expert.

Hrm. I'm halfway considering for fun, creating a nomad race... using the nBSG model shipset. I'm going to use that set anyway... :P

If you do, find a nice red nebula (I think red ones have the maximum cloak) and go von neumann like everybody's doing in B5. With -99% maintainence, once you get remote mining going, you'll be able to replace whole war fleets in a couple turns.

Of course the whole problem is surviving that long... if they find your shipyards, or worse your homeworld, and your remote miners aren't cloaked like Pirate ones...

...so say we all. It'll depend on how many people we get. I'll go Nomad if we can get 8 total. :)

I've got myself, Kojiro, Tobor, and another friend wants to play too, his monicker is usually CaptBooyah. I'll give him the details when I get home and can access them myself...

Great. I guess I can put together my rag-tag fleet... :P

Question, Brian. If you get the 99 maintenance reduction, is it safe to turn racial maintenance down below 100? Or no?

I think so, not sure it's easy to check :P.

Damn, my turn is taking forever, and it's going to take this long for another couple turns... selecting a hundred planets and adding 100 troops in the queue, the turn after adding mines, the turn after that adding weapons platforms... not sure why I'm doing it, might just build ships. All because you added that cryptic line in the RP Neph lol.

Are you using Multi-Add? Kojiro stumbled across it and passed it onto me the other day - until now, I've never used it, it has its shortcomings but it's saved me a lot of time.

Hrm. Ouch, it's not a passive bonus, but a 50 KT item? Meeww. :/

Hrm. I'll reconsider...

How many empire points should I set? I think tech level medium is good to start.

Is the Shrapnel Games forum working for anybody, I've been trying to access it for 2 days now and it's been down...

<edit>I would rather low-tech, but medium-tech is fine with me too. I'd rather have high resource start too, and a 5k empire. Definitely more room to expand than the ST game though.</edit>

Tech level medium works for me. As for empire points, I vote for 5k. Let people have more room to play around with the traits and stuff.

Not that I'm aware of. I'll check with Booyah and make sure it's not him.

EDIT: It's not him.

Okay I tried my defender, offender, leaders strategy and it didn't work in the simulator. The offenders/leaders get killed before the siege fortifications. But, I don't think the simulator accurately uh simulates combat. Finally got into Shrapnel Forums,
SE:IV FAQ wrote:7.2.26 It's a well known strategy, but I'll mention it nevertheless: If you want to achieve maximum efficiency in ground combat, it's worth to design 3 types of troops: Defender, Offender and Leader. Defender's design include small shields (or armor) only. Offenders are armed with you favorite weapon (ground cannons or small shield depleters) and nothing else. Leader is equipped with shields plus small combat sensor and small ECM components. Produce them in 3:6:1 proportions (rough numbers). Now, then filling your troop transport, place Defenders first, then Offenders and Last Leaders. Being dropped to a planet, Defender will play a meat shield role, Offenders will stay behind Defenders unharmed and wipe out militia (or hostile troops) and Leaders will provide attack and defense bonus to the whole stack of troops. (Aiken)
The problem is in simultaneous games, you don't get to see the ground combat. So I'll have to play a turn-based single player game and try and take over a planet. It should make it take a few turns to take over a large planet. If somebody already has a single player game and can test this out or send me the saved game file I wouldn't mind that, thanks.

I've got a few saved games, I'll try it and let you know what happens tonight.

Perhaps Dust is that new guy Vyraeth who was asking to join the next trek mod game.

Okay, I tried it and no dice I'm afraid. The defenders didn't get depleted in ground combat, only the attackers did.

Did you load them in the transport in the right order? Maybe try reversing the order loading it?

That's strange though, it looks like all you need to blockade a planet or defend against a siege is that 30 kT siege fortification...

Pretty much makes those command components useless...

Yes, I loaded them in the right order: meat shields first, attackers second, leaders last. The attackers were in the middle in that ground combat screen, but they were the only ones who were being destroyed. It's not the order of loading them into the transport.
