Space Empires IV Gold Game

The Romulan Star Empire's been aflame for awhile now. By now, I'm just looking to hurt you as much as possible before I go down. Oh, by the way, thanks for destroying that Federation fleet the second it came into my posession.

I take it back about the weak GR technology. Behold the Shran.
31 qtorps, it's a monster. I wish Ferengi had 1200 kT hulls. +15% maintainence though...
<edit>And his little brother... wow this is where we started from... with a lot worse components too...

No that was Neph, I'm just showing off my cool designs .
I don't think it matters. Shields and weapons tech is only like 10k and 5k going up a little each level. Ship Construction is expensive, but GR have a 700 sized battlecruiser (pretty small, I can only put 7 shields and 14 weapons on it and I'm pretty frugal now) and jump all the way up to 1k but then they have 15% maintainence on it.
Romulans have -10% maintainence on their Warbirds, if I play them I'm going for those . I think Federation Captains lower maintainence too.
I would also not mind Borg.

I think Tux wants the Dominion for the next game.

Uploaded the new turn. Took a glance at the current situation. Not good for me. Looks like there's no way I can get my fleet to strike back before they're all abandoned and scrapped once my remaining homeworlds fall.
So, should we call it? The game is essentially over, so I'm thinking I should just surrender, in the normal SEIV sense. Then, if you want to beat the dead horse you can keep playing, and I won't have to be reminded every day of my failure to outwit and outmaneuver you guys

I do not mind quitting now. Actually the turns are getting annoying. Managing 185 planets is a pain in the ass.
Everybody's got a piece of the action except for Dalton though. Although I'm not sure if he would find fighting to the death fun against the 165 ships heading to his homeworlds, who knows he is a Klingon .
I don't mind starting over. The beginning is the most fun for me anyway. I've maxed out every single technology except for WMD.
The only tension left for me now is watching for when Neph's going to inevitably backstab me, and the turns are getting too unwieldy for my taste. If you want to see what my turn is like, pm me and I'll give you my password and you can look in.
<edit>Trogdor you seemed to get the short end with your genesis ships... every one of your planets in Coridan are red. When I make planets, every four or five are breathers </edit>

I'm actually kind of curious how my defenses will fare against your attack.

May the way of the Hero lead to the Triforce.
Well my ships are no big secret, most of them are variants of this design,
Ship and fleet strategy set to point blank, so the torpedoes aren't wasted at long range, and a few guns to deal with fighters. My 100 ships managed to eliminate a couple hundred of Tux's fighters. Torpedoes are quantums, for the Klingons the equivalent is advanced photon torpedoes.
Fighting your latest Kor Mark 7 warships,
Fighting any of your warships, you need at least twice as many as me to kill equal numbers, even the Fist of Kahless 500 kt bigger. I'm sure what will happen is you've stocked up thousands of troops on your home planets so my ground attack will fail, but then my ships will just end up glassing your planets.
If I can criticize your ships designs for a minute, there's too much crap on your ships to make them effective. Anything that doesn't help you take or deal damage is a waste of space. Sensors shouldn't be on your battleships--you can make a smaller ship or an auxillary ship with sensors on it. Scanner Jammers are useless if you're using scattering armor, they give the same bonus. Once you have ramscoops you don't really need bussard collectors, and you can make a separate "supply" class ship. You don't need that many security stations on a ship that's not designed to capture enemy ships.
Point defense guns we figured out in the beginning of the game were pretty pointless because of Tux's uber fighters. Basically put 20+ armors on a fighter, and it takes four or five point defense shots to kill just one fighter. Better to go with main ship weapons. Next game hopefully it's changed so "one per vehicle" for the small armors so there isn't these uber fighters and PD guns will make sense.
Right now your war cruisers are the equivalent of my destroyers with all the wasted space .
We can still fight, if you want though .
<edit>If I was to make Klingon ships, I'd make them like this,
I might change the number of photon torpedoes and add in half pulse instead if I was dealing with fighters I might add in PD guns if next game the "only one per vehicle" is changed for small armor. Strategies set to point blank for fleet and ship. If I was dealing with Romulans, I'd rip out most of the shield generators and put in torpedoes because of the Rommies armor+shield skipping 2 reload weapons. And I wouldn't use emissive armor except if I was designing a ship purely to kill fighters, because normal armors are better and most guns do more than 15 damage and they're useless against any gun > 15 damage.</edit>

Hahaha, none taken, I'll have fun blowing you to bits .
I got most of my design tips from Neph. Before we allied and she helped me I was building ships just as bad as yours. Neph worked out a killer design, basically the same as my Master Design but instead put 12 quantum torpedoes to blow through the shields and 12 Neutrino Beams. The Neutrino Beams shoot through the damage reduction ability. It is my "Grand Nagus T" design, or Neph's "Plasma Cube" design or "Scourge of the Stars."
Torpedoes that do double damage to shields are the only way to get through the damage reduction of let's say Trogdor's KF's. That's why his KF's were so killer. Once you have 13 shields, that's 13 x 5 recharge = 65 shield recharge per hit and pulse guns do 66 on the mount, so 13 is the sweet spot. Trog's had 16 shields, still good to have some backups in case the damage that leaks through damages some shield generators. Armor skipping weapons skip the damage reduction ability of shields.
<edit>That's 13 Shield X (shield X has the 5 shield recharge per hit)... I think next game everybody will rush for torpedo technology, but to deal with fighters and torpedoes it's good to research both in parallel. It's cheap to research weapons technology, around 10k per level so might as well research both. What you end up putting on your ships depends on what they have. The more shields they have, the more torpedoes you need. The more fighters, the more pulse guns. I made the mistake of researching torpedoes really late and not using them at all.</edit>

Now that it's over, we were really afraid of this from you Tux,
When I put 50 of your Constellation Mark 4's against 80 of my newest design Grand Nagus T battlecruiser, it's even losses 50 50. You're using hulls 1300 kT, should really kill at least two battlecruisers for every ship I kill especially considering my battlecruisers have paper-thin 7 shields. Son of Surak can probably kill 2 or 3 Grand Nagus T for every ship, though this new design of quantums + armor skipping beams is a pretty killer combo (Neph thought of it, as usual ).

Backstabbing you at this point may be fun, but too much of a hastle. That'll drag on another 50 turns.brianeyci wrote:I do not mind quitting now. Actually the turns are getting annoying. Managing 185 planets is a pain in the ass.

I think we can call it a game. Had a great time and there was a ton of tense moments. GG!
Hm Dalton that makes two who don't want to play their turns, and I'm not feeling like doing it that much either . If you want your final grand battle I'll submit but only one or two more turns...
...I'll write up some conclusion to the game and lead us into the next one for the RP thread if everybody wants to quit...
...my apologies for the busted image links peeps, looks like I went over the bandwidth, but that's what you get for 0 dollars.
<edit>oh yeah and STFU noobs GG no re lol ... well actually we're rematching for sure, but I always wanted to say that.</edit>

I could go either way. I've got one last fleet to smash against Brian's forces, so I don't mind playing on so Dalton can get his grand battle. On the other hand, I also wouldn't mind starting the new game.

Bah. 250 kT + 15 reload time = teh lose.brianeyci wrote:Now that it's over, we were really afraid of this from you Tux,
Actually, the shields don't matter at all. You'd be better off against my ships with no shields and no armor. If you notice, the constellations completely ignore both. However, the problem is that I could never get the braindead AI to even semi-competently use my (fairly straightforward) designs. Very maddening. In theory, my constellations should have been worth 2 of anyone else's Juggernoughts (except maybe the KFs). In practice, they were barely worth more than one. When I put 50 of your Constellation Mark 4's against 80 of my newest design Grand Nagus T battlecruiser, it's even losses 50 50. Anyway, 50 vs 80 isn't just 8/5 to 1 odds, because you're forgetting about the n-squared law. Not that it matters, since you had more than double the number I had, and Neph had at least half again what I did.
