Starship Troopers vs Imperial Stormtroopers
OK, here's one which I've been brought to imagine by other threads herein:
Which force would be more effective? A brigade of troops such as those from the film "Starship Troopers", or a brigade of Imperial Stormtroopers?
Assume that these brigade are commanded by two identical brigadiers.
An early "Merry Christmas", by the way

I would have to go with the stormies. They could probably have taken Klendathu(sp) without 100k losses.

If they're from the movie, then the Imps win hands down. The MI from the movie is the equivalent of light infantry, with inferior weapons, armor, and tactics (though you did say equivalent leadership) to the stormies.
The book MI would provide a much better fight, IMHO.

A company of Stormies is more effective then a whole MI division from the film "Starship Troopers." The only group worse then MI from "Starship Troopers" is StarFleet Security personnel.Dodge wrote:OK, here's one which I've been brought to imagine by other threads herein:

The stormies, definitely. Lucas said on the AotC DVD that stormtroopers are clone troopers. The clone troopers were extremely well-organized and efficient in the Battle of Geonosis. The MI from Starship Troopers was more or less like a mob with huge-ass guns. Add in the fact that the stormtroopers' helmets have enhanced vision and coordination with their weapons, not to mention that they have better weapons are full-body armor. The MI is toast, and I'm fairly certain that the Empire or even the Republic could have easily taken Klendathu with minimal losses. No Imperial general would ever let thousands of men loose on a planet full of ferocious insect creatures when it takes a dozen men to put down one. He'd have been executed for extreme incompetence before he had the chance to step down.
On that note, why the Hell were the humans even trying to capture planets? It's not like they're of any strategic value. The goal is to eliminate the Bug threat to Earth, and the easiest way to do it is to simply glass each planet that is launching asteroids from orbit.

IIRC the MI were trying to catch some bugs from the "leadership" caste to examine for intelligence value.Durandal wrote:On that note, why the Hell were the humans even trying to capture planets? The official site claims that although the starfleet could have nuked those planets, that would have also destroyed their natural resources, which was the reason Earth was expanding onto them in the first place. On that note, why the Hell were the humans even trying to capture planets? One of those advantages is the fact that even without their armoured vehicles, stormies carry a lot more heavy weapons than MI. Heavy automatic weapons, mortars, tripod-mounted guns, etc. And even their small-arms fire on full-power can blow concrete walls apart, so they won't need 50 hits to take down one bug.
For a time, I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron.
But now, you shall witnesss ... its dismemberment!

Hmmm, I thought as much.
You're all right, though. Clone troopers who exist only to fight for the Empire have to be better than the Mobile Infantry (which comprises people with feelings and other interests).
I did like the film Starship Troopers, even if there were some unlikely events. I think it's the Paul Verhoefen directing which endears it to me. (Secretly I like the Robocop films I and II - everything after that was pants)
