Color Changing Eyes

Post by PrinceofLowLight »

Why do some peoples' eyes change? This happens to me and most everyone I know with light eyes, so I'm guessing it has something to do with that.

Sometimes it's really radical; my eyes go from green to deep blue when I go south of the equater. And sometimes it doesn't follow any sort of rhyme or reason at all: I know someone whose eyes go from yellow to light brown to pale blue to blue-green completely randomly.

What's all this then, hrm?

It is thought that it varies by moods, for some people. I have brown eyes, but they have gone steel grey before, so I don't believe it has to do with them being light-coloured, either.

I've seen kids with different colours in each eyes. That was really cool and creepy at the same time.

I'm guessing it depends on the lighting. One of my friends has blue eyes, indoors they're blue-grey or light blue, outdoors in cloudy weather and her eyes are blue, and in sunlight they become blue-green.

Sometimes it's the light- this occurs when someone's got about equal amounts of different colors in their eyes (If you look close enough, everyone has at least two different colors, usually their primary and a grayish color), though there are rare occasions of eyes, like hair, changing colors midway through life. If it keeps changing, it's probably the multicolor light value thing. If it's once, there's a good chance it's an actual pigment change.

Though if you've got enough different colors, it could be like a chameleon's method, and the different colored areas grow and shrink unconciously.

It's called an inconsistant pigmentation of the iris. Moods, altitude changes, sometimes weather can change the color.
Please forgive any idiotic comments, stupid observations, or dumb questions in above post, for I am but a college student with little real world experience.

Moods?!? Attitude can affect eye-color? How do you get pitch-black eyes? By being Gothic all the time?

People attribute it to moods; doesn't mean it is so. Please read what is being posted.

I have black eyes. Really black, not dark brown, etc. People try to tell me I have dark brown eyes, I tell them that they're wrong.

IIRC every newborn has blue eyes, which eventually change into some other color (or not, some of course retain those blue eyes).

Where did you get this little piece of info? I've never heard this before.

It's a commonplace that babies of European descent have blue eyes, and that they develop their definite eye colour only between four and six months of age. However, I read (for instance here) that this is not universally true, and that babies of 'races' with a normal eye colour may be or usually are born with brown eyes.

'Baby blue' eyes are not what you might expect, or anyway not what I expected. It is a rather dark, murky colour, and was so even in the case of a niece of mine who grew up to develop the most startling pale blue eyes.

My mother not only has different coloured eyes, but one iris is green two thirds of the way round, and brown the rest. The other one is blue.

Exactly what I thought, because I know that I was born with brown eyes myself.

Karza, next time you want to say something like that, it's good to back your statements with some form of evidence, otherwise you look the fool.

Actually a lot of people believe all babies are born blue-eyed, especially in areas where caucasians are the majority. I was in my teens before I found out that black children are born with brown eyes.
The day I saw a black man with pale blue eyes freaked me out, because it was something I'd never seen or knew could happen. (He was Jamacian, btw)

Understandable, but even so. Personally, I'd never heard of babies being born with blue eyes unless it was in reference to cats or dogs.
