I was just wondering. How effective would a modern steal headed sledgehammer be against someone Medieval Plate Armor?

Aye, we had a thread on hammers versus plate mail a while back.

Of course, sledgehammers are a bit more unwieldy than warhammers, since they sacrifice balance for added momentum, but that means they would obviously cause more damage when they actually hit (just make sure the other guy doesn't kill you first).

Let me break things down, so everyone gets the idea this time (hopefully).

Weight on end of stick = Mass Weapon. (axe, mace, halberd, hammer, sledgehammer, morning star, etc, ad naus.)

Mass Weapon v/s PlateMail= Very Large Dents. (and punctures, if bladed)

Very Large Dents = Serious Injuries to person inside. (broken bones, internal trauma/bleeding, etc)

So, class, do we understand now? Mass Weapon > Plate mail.
Which is WHY mass weapon gained in popularity during that period of warfare!
