Wow.
Okay, I'm all caught up on my nBSG, and first let me say; I'm still a fan!
Since the emotions of the season finale - along with half of the second season which I missed watching the same time as the rest of the board - are all spinning in my head, this post will be long, and a bit random, as I try and catch up with all that's been shown.
First of all, President Laura Roslin; I too thought the writers 'flinched', but you'd be amazed at how much you learn about the inner workings and decision making process of the show when you listen to the podcasts. Yes, they essentially kept her alive because they wanted to do more with her, and they felt she had more to offer. And I for one am thrilled by this, since Stands-With-A-Fist is by and far a stand out character/actor and plot for this show.
The balls on her, and yet the quiet child like quality are perfectly human. I love the whole 'throw them out the airlock' attitude she has now, and I especially love the developing relationship between her and Adm. Adama - although I'm a bit suprised that it wasn't her and Apollo, but that was manly due to
Stravo's insights, and not my own. The interaction between her and Adama after she was caught with her hand in the cookie jar was just, in my opinion spot on.
The Cylon religion; you know at first I didn't really know what to make of this, I mean the whole religion question has been so back and forth on this show, and this board but
damn! The Cylon infiltrator model, who is a priest and an athiest just cracked me up!
I hesitate to try and guess what the writer's are trying to do with this image (remember I listen to the podcasts, I
know how much of this is made up on the spot), but it sort of puts into perspective of something that I've been wondering;
In the season finale, during the Presidential debates, Roslin makes a good, and I think potent point that hasn't been picked up by
anyone on this board. Specifically regarding the scriptures, she makes the distinction between blind religious nuttary and asking the question as to whether or not there is any
truth to the scriptures. Like there was truth about Kobol, about the temple of Athena, the arrow of Apollo and ultimately Earth.
And then you couple with that with what the priest said about how religion is primative life's explaination as to why the sun goes up and down, and it sort of hit me; what if the Cylon religion, is just a subtle stab at this by the writers? I mean what if they are like trying to show how 'human like' the Cylons have become that they have abandon 'cold hard machine' logic and started to self-delude themselves about devine entities? Pretty subtle if true, but remember how I prefaced all of this with the podcast revelations.
One Year Later
Wow. That was ballsy, and yet, right. It needed to be done, but here are a few (nitpick) gripes;
The tent city ... yes, the colonials can manufacture
Vipers and
Raptors in space, but yet they can't even erect brick structures (not even one that I saw) on a planet after ONE WHOLE YEAR? Come on, really. Apart from that, I loved the feel of the refugee 'hardship'.
The way the characters have 'moved on' and 'changed' was fucking great. Starbuck hugging Tigh nearly had me choking on my soft dring, fat Lee (who by the way looks like a younger version of Tony Soprano - check it out), union leader Tyrol (with preggas Cally), presidential aide Gaeta (oh you clever Cylon you [joke, joke]), officer Dualla (hot, hot, hot) and President Gaius Baltar - oh man, this show is so great.
On President Baltar, it sort of amazes me how quickly people are jumping up and down on the 'he is SuxX0rs' band wagon. I mean have you guys forgotten Roslin's presidency? The woman was doing an
out fucking standing job and yet had to freaking monthly battles to keep her Presidency (no thanks to that snake Zarek). Obviously, some have to be doing slightly better to explain why popular up rising hasn't asked for Baltar's head on a platter. Otherwise this show took a little reality hit.
There has
got to be a reason as to why he is still in power if he has been doing such a [presumeably] bad job.
There is no Cylon plan.
Seriously, the writers make this shit up as they go along, it's just a fake out. Still cool trying to guess as to what it is though, so here's my two cents; the joining of the races. That seems to be the only one that hasn't been completely blown to shits ever since the episode '
The Farm', and oh look, they have the rest of humanity all gathered up in New Caprica, how dandy to try and recruit willing participants.
Anyway, time for
HUGE MASSIVE FUCK-OFF SPOILERS
In case you guys haven't figured it out we are up to here [32:1-6 and 32:25] which means, at any moment now Roslin will be coming down [the mountain] to open up a can of whoop ass!
