Would the Borg assimilate lower primates?
I know that this is a bit off topic, but if the Borg found a planet full of chimpanzees, for example, would they assimilate them? As long as they stayed on a ship or an assimilated planet, and had the collective to guide them, they could be useful.
And then perhaps the chimps would start to regain their independence and start a drone/chimp uprising that would result in the Queen having to bribe them with bananas and chocolate. It could happen.

The Borg do not assimilate what they perceive as inferior forms of life. Some species, like the Kazon, the Borg consider unworthy of assimilation. Their perspective is "why assimilate that which detracts from perfection?". Undoubtably from their perspective, primates would fit the "inferior forms of life" definition.
Then it becomes a question of leaving them alone, or destroying them. Leave them alone, since they are irrelevan to the Borg. Or destroy them because they use up resources in the universe that could be used for better things to come.Robert Walper wrote:The Borg do not assimilate what they perceive as inferior forms of life. Agreed.neoolong wrote:Then it becomes a question of leaving them alone, or destroying them.
That would be my first thought, unless the planet itself is of interest to the Collective.Leave them alone, since they are irrelevan to the Borg.
They would only destroy those primates if the effort justified some goal directly benefiting themselves. The abstract thought of primates wasting the universe's resources would undoubtably be considered irrelevent to the Borg(if anything, these primates may one day evolve into a technological society that would benefit the Borg once assimilated). The primates themselves would be irrelevent. Only the planet and/or other resources would be of concern if the Borg needed them.Or destroy them because they use up resources in the universe that could be used for better things to come.

See as there is a thread where the Borg assimilate Darkstar. I would say yes.
