Puddle Jumper II.
Alternate P4X-221 Star System.
January 11, 2005.

Mitchell tried to wipe the grin off his face as he exchanged a glance with Daniel who was trying his best to not roll his eyes.
Well he wasn’t a pilot, so Mitchell could forgive him that.

He had little doubt that the crew of the F-302’s shadowing them would be getting kicks out of this for months.

“Vader, Mushroom” he ordered, tabbing the subspace communications system, “you’re clear to RTB, we’ll take it from here”.

“You sure boss?” Aston asked with a tone of mock seriousness. “She sounds like she could be trouble”.

This time Daniel did roll his eyes.

“You have your orders, scat” Cameron demanded and a few seconds later, the two F-302’s banked away from their shadow positions and returned to Prometheus, hopefully undetected as Mitchell followed the two Vipers in silence. Daniel offered little in the way of conversation, still reading through that damn book, trying to absorb as much as possible before they landed.

“Jumper two, you are cleared for landing. Look for the red landing pad”

“Copy that Viper” Mitchell acknowledged, spying the well let red rectangle halfway down the side of the massive cavern. Decelerating, and descending towards it, the two fighters escorting him speed up, waggling their wings and aiming for the far end of the through deck hanger.

“That’s looks like a tight fit” Daniel commented looking up from his book.

“Looks like” Mitchell agreed, then flicked a switch and retracted the Jumpers nacelles into the body, before settling down vertically onto the deck. Securing the sub light engines, he locked down the control and headed aft with Daniel. They were in standard field gear, minus the heavy weapons. Their main weapon was a small bracelet each man was wearing, containing a tiny black box with a single red button, the activation stud for a subspace locator beacon.

He wasn’t exactly sure how Galactica was going to pressurize the hanger bay, but as the craft jolted and started to descend into the floor, he realized they didn’t have do. This had to be an elevator like on an aircraft carrier, there was probably a whole maintenance and common are under the flight deck.

He gave himself two seconds to congratulate himself for figuring it out before activating the jumpers subspace communications array.

“Prometheus, we have landed and are taxing to the hanger deck”.
“I’ve got you on sensors Cameron” Carters voice replied, she had stayed back on board Prometheus to start a preliminary analysis on the data they had collected, but she was clearly keeping an eye open.
“Just remember to keep your transponders on you at all times” Pendergast came onto the channel. “If one of you activates it, we’ll beam you both back”.
“Copy that” Mitchell nodded, then realized of course Pendergast couldn’t see him nodding so it was a wasted effort.

Out the front of the Jumper, the mechanical workings of the hull under the flight deck gave way to a brightly lit maintenance area…filled with people.

Showtime.

Wow, that was awesome!

I really like the slow play you made to have Pendergast say Earth, I was just so damn impatient for him to say it!

This is a fantastic chapter and I can't wait for the next one.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

W00t! Excellant chapter. Though a few errors. isn't Landry a Major General? and it'd be SG-0.75 with 3/4 of them :D

Nice job. Not exactly two chapters, just one and a bit , but a nice one nevertheless.

off-topic: This board really needs a "thumbs up" emoticon.

Nicely done. The Mitchell/Starbuck interplay is going to be good. I can't wait to the see reaction when the colonials find out they can't settle on Earth!

One thing that most Galactica fics lack is the right characterization of Baltar.

Not yours, though.

The Tau'ri can just give them another habitable planet though.

They could settle on earth.

Heck, there's only 40,000 of them. You could put them in Brooklyn and nobody would notice. Five years from now all the hip-hop artist would be saying "Frak" and we wouldn't know where it came from.

Doing so would hardly be a satisficatory exsistance for them. What would they have to do? not much. And there'd probably be quite a bit of culture shock and it'd be hard to maintain the Stargate's secrecy If you have 4 thousand aliens wondering around Earth.

Much better set them up with their own planet and send them supplies and stuff and get them to mine naquadah for us and train our space forces.

GOOD JOB on the story. I hope I can do as good a meeting in mine.

You could also beam them all on to a gateless planet and steal their ships. It sounds harsh, but the fleet could be useful against various space vampires and superbeings, and you can't trust idiots who decide to settle on a planet while being chased by killer robots.

Damn that was worth the wait. Methinks that Apollo is going to have a bit of competition from a certain Air Force officer, though Kara would probably be the one to start said competition.

I get the feeling that "unlike the Dedalus" line WRT computer security is going to be very important.

Well considering around the same time this stuff is going on, the Daedelus is having to deal with the Wraith computer virus (and frankly, from what we've seen thus far, I think the Wraith are better with computers than the Cylons), I think after the Virus incident the Daedelus will take to keeping their operating computers disconnected from any communication equipment to eliminate future such intrusions.

Does Galactica actually use its starboard bay because they never have on the show? They always seem to use the port bay and that is where all ships usually land. Just a little thing in a sea of greatness. This story was the first real fanfic I ever read and got me hooked. I love this story!

They don't have enough fighters to make it worth their trouble powering it up and pressurising it. The cylons destroyed the port bay's complement of fighters thanks to Baltar's virus in the miniseries, and the old vypers were taken from the starboard bay. Other than that, we don't really see it again until the cylons fly a heavy raider through the port bay's big glass (another problem) windows.

Also, the fligth control room was turned into a gift shop, so that bay no longer had the ability to launch Vipers, even if they had some.

On another note, I just want to say how much I am enjoying this story, and that I can't wait for more.
