Starwars - The Series - Time between ROTS and ANH

Post by LaCroix »

Just came in in our News - JL will make a Series (real actors) depicting the rise of the empire!!! 100 Episodes planned!

http://oe3.orf.at/aktuell/stories/95894/

Any confirmation? They say that Rick McCullum told this in a sky.com interview. The source is the austrian TV-Network, so it should be relyable.

Time to do the great deed before it is 100 hours more to watch in one session :D
A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay

Old news (although I read in a Swedish article that Anthony Daniels will reprise his role as C-3PO, has anyone else read anything about that?)

Oh, and there's this BBC article from yesterday (for those who doesn't speak German, there's not much new information though).

EDIT: I was directed to an article that mentioned that Anthony Daniels will be featured (confirmed by Rick McCallum): From The Mirror

I'd be great if the series had C-3PO and R2-D2. As much as I enjoy the Star Wars universe outside of the movie characters, I wouldn't object to a series focusing on, say, the Organa family, the Tantive IV, and their involvement in the Imperial Senate and early rebellion.

I'm a bit puzzled why this is being made a big deal out of now, since Lucas talked about both this show and the 3D animated CW show last year.

Maybe they've finally decided to push on with it?

Around here, it's new news. We don't get every snippet of news over the pond.

I'm not sure, but I hadn't heard that Anthony Daniels would be involved.

From the opinions I've heard, most of the more 'hard core' fans, though not me, seem to want the story to be about really minor details of the SW universe that only such people would know about. If that were to be the case, I don't think it would have enough mass market appeal. I think something more large-scale than the struggles of the Lars family would go down better, perhaps the birth of the Rebellion?

To be honest, I really don't care what it's about. It's been a dream of mine to have a Star Wars tv series since I first discovered the movies way back when. I can remember watching Star Trek and thinking to myself, "I wish this was Star Wars, instead."

Personally, I wish it was about the hunt for the Jedi and the exploits of Darth Vader, mainly because I want Lucas to restore his badass factor, which he lost much of when you compare him to pre-Mustafar Anakin.

To be fair, though, I'd be happy with anything.

I just hope they don't pull the same crap that Battlestar Galactica did and air it on Friday evening's, when I am very rarely near a television or in a state of mind to enjoy Star Wars.

When I was little, I'd play with TIE fighters and pretend they were part of a SW mini-series or something. Anything to add to the 3 films at the time.

Now we might be getting 100 episodes. Wow, times have changed.

OMG, I hope they have one on the Kuati shipyards. Imagine the potential for cameos if some ILMer sat down and read Dark Empire!

I hope they do an all Wookiee episode where something happens according to the natural progression of the story seriously but only Wookiees are featured.

No subtitles, of course. :)

Likewise.. or at least a few episodes with lots of Stormtroopers, AT-ATs, ISD's and the Executor... unfortunately I also know the odds of that happening :(

Ever since I heard the announcement, I've been envisioning a Imperial war material parade through the streets of Coruscants, thousands of Stormtroopers marching alongside AT-ATs, AT-STs, Juggernauts, while holo-cameras record and transmit the scene from above, and Palpatine and Vader watch from a high balcony. Even if the show isn't about the Empire itself, it would make an excellent introduction for the series' inevitable antagonist.

I'd like to see the old Han Solo novels turned into TV shows. They're the only EU I liked and take place before Solo became a pussywhipped Brady Bunch version of himself.

*OR*, some well designed ships. If I see a single WEG-esque 'bolt on the guns, nerds don't care' ship, I'll... well, I'll cry.

Odds of this sucking, unfortunately, are high.

I'd like our heroes, whoever they are, to throw a thermal detonator at some point in time. Not the smaller (due to the problems of price, collateral damage, and blast radius>distance this thing can be thrown) ones the Stormies tend to carry, but the "hand-held HE artillery shell" version that levels small buildings.

Also, it would be nice to see a few small fleet battles. This shouldn't be to hard to pull-off. Picture two large crime sindicates having a gang-war. Exept that this being the Star Wars universe, they fight with nuclear-yeild weaponry and starships.

What I would like to see in the TV series is Rebel base: Delta Zero. Then we get to see it being slagged.

Please, Emperor, don't let all Imperials be mustache twirling British aristocrats.

Please, Almighty Emperor, don't be minimalistic with numbers of stuff. A proper Star Wars fleet shouldn't be a Zentraedi one or a Gunbuster fleet, but it should at least have a hundred ships, for Christ's sake. Invasions of planets should not be outmatched in terms of logistics by Operation Barbarossa or Operation Bagration.

Please, Emperor, have the Rise of the Empire and not a show about the Early Rebellion. And even if it is, don't have the Rebellion actually accomplish huge things or engage in open battles.

Please, Emperor of Mankind, don't let this suck.

Amen.

An Imperial officer with handlebar mustache and a Mexican accent would be awesome... 8)
