Here's something I found on Tag World.

I wonder what else is in the kit.

The irony of the whole thing is that, if the Christian Rapture actually DID happen, the only people who would have bought the Rapture Survival Kits would be the people who believe in the Rapture - aka, the people who be raptured up, and wouldn't need Rapture Survival Kits.

Seems more of a prostelitation(sp?) tool than a legitimate tool for survival.

Proselytising? Yes, it does have that aura. I think it'd be far more interesting to have the events of The Stand or Cell happen (both King ideas) or maybe Instrumentality, than just have people disappear.Majin Gojira wrote:Seems more of a prostelitation(sp?) tool than a legitimate tool for survival.

I'd prefer to have a nice boring life. The survival rate in the Stand is worse than some lotteries.Admiral Valdemar wrote: Proselytising? Yes, it does have that aura. It's a magic escape card thing and something never(To my knowledge) mentioned anywhere biblewise but Relevations which in and of itself is a certian persons bad drug trip written down in full.jegs2 wrote:I recently learned that the Presbyterian church does not believe in the Rapture.

Rapture references in the Bible
Here are Biblical references:Mr Bean wrote:It's a magic escape card thing and something never(To my knowledge) mentioned anywhere biblewise but Relevations which in and of itself is a certian persons bad drug trip written down in full.
Paul wrote:1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18Therefore encourage each other with these words.
There are more out there, but those are probably the best known. Much is open to interpretation.Matthew wrote:Chapter 24
36"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.
Not entirely true - there's two camps out there, and one believes that all the True Believers™ will be whisked away the moment of the Rapture and apocalypse will come, etc, and another that believes the Rapture will occur only after the Tribulation.Guardsman Bass wrote:The irony of the whole thing is that, if the Christian Rapture actually DID happen, the only people who would have bought the Rapture Survival Kits would be the people who believe in the Rapture - aka, the people who be raptured up, and wouldn't need Rapture Survival Kits.

I was under the impression that the Rapture referred solely to the idea that believers would be whisked up to heaven before the Tribulation, since after the Tribulation Christ is supposed to arrive. Wouldn't that make it a "Tribulation Survival Kit", rather than a "Rapture Survival Kit"?Exonerate wrote:Not entirely true - there's two camps out there, and one believes that all the True Believers™ will be whisked away the moment of the Rapture and apocalypse will come, etc, and another that believes the Rapture will occur only after the Tribulation.Guardsman Bass wrote:The irony of the whole thing is that, if the Christian Rapture actually DID happen, the only people who would have bought the Rapture Survival Kits would be the people who believe in the Rapture - aka, the people who be raptured up, and wouldn't need Rapture Survival Kits.
As for the generally idea, I've heard that the idea of the Rapture is actually only a kind of minority view.

It's pretty popular among fundies, who are... well, I hesitate to say probably approximately 30, 40% of total Christians in the US? Don't quote me on that, though.Guardsman Bass wrote: As for the generally idea, I've heard that the idea of the Rapture is actually only a kind of minority view.
It is also, however, rather well propagated through mainstream Christianity as well, in large part due to various apocalyptic literature which usually begins with people finding their families or friends all vanished suddenly or whatever... I myself personally blame the Left Behind series.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.
Interestingly, that series paints a rather inept picture of the Antichrist. It also throws in a hodgepodge of interpretation from various parts of Scripture to substatiate the plot-line. Some of what is assumed by many to be symbolic is interpreted literally in those books (flying ugly critters that sting folks being such an example).Elheru Aran wrote:I myself personally blame the Left Behind series.

Oil an emergency?! It's about time, Brigadier, that the leaders of this planet of yours realised that to remain dependent upon a mineral slime simply doesn't make sense.

You probably should hide some food supplies as well- unless you are so tough that you can eat and shit bullets.
