Welcome back Rob. Anyway the Fanfic forum has grown significantly since last you were here. We've had a massive amount of chapters to two in particular. Star Crossed and Manifest Destiny. Perversions of the Force is the new kid on the block and I doubt it will have much competition, without a doubt a VERY WELL done porn fanfic (never thought I would ever see that combo of words out of my mouth.)

We have fanfics for whatever mood you're in. You want adventure and excitement: Star Crossed and Manifest Destiny. You want romance or just plain raunchy hot love? Perversions of the Force. You wanna laugh: Weemadando's A Crossover too Far is HILARIOUS.

I know about Ando's as I read it's start on ASVS and his Dark Dawn too. I'll definitely give Manifest and Star-crossed a look, and i notice some Cowboy Bebop as well. Interesting. PLus continuations of Suicide Squad, The Prize, Last Hero and lord knows how many others. Rob am happy.

I didn't find FOTE that entertaining, really, though Marina probably knows that already. Just a lot of combat without any real point, it seemed, or character development or anything else. Her writing style wasn't that good at the time either.

TLP was better and her writing much improved.

DIG is quite good, of course. You've read it, right?

Fist of the Empire was all about idea's, that they didn't have a central plot that worked properly didn't matter, I just think she had to get them out there if only as practise or a writing exercise. The long Patrol was learning to do characters and pacing, and DIG? I only read the first 2 chapters before RL interrupted but it showed that her previous works had given her excellent core skills to build on.

That they did, but their general roughness still showed. I really did want a plot and character development and all of that good stuff, not just titanic fleet battles Imperial troops being nuked.

That they did, but their general roughness still showed. I really did want a plot and character development and all of that good stuff, not just titanic fleet battles Imperial troops being nuked.

Like I say, I got the feeling she just had idea's that she had to get out there and at the time lacked the skill to thread them coherently. Most of the other authors will know the feeling of just having to write idea's out because they must be written.

Look at the help it gave her in sorting out the space battles in The Long Patrol. Her pacing was there (though slightly erratic) and her focus on the characters was a good step forwards for her prose, especially considering they were all stereotypes that managed to engage the readers.

And if it all pays off in DIG, then it's more than worth it. She's developing in public and it bodes well for her Post-DIG work. Especially if he narrows her focus and comes away from the sweeping Space opera style and experiments with some short story work. She's got the talent there, I'd like to see her use it more.

When I heard some comments about how traditional Star Wars characters hadn't been showing up much yet, I couldn't resist the temptation:

"Tolstoy was just getting warmed up at this point."

So you'd better hurry and get caught up.

which shows how well your maturing into your writing (grief that sounds condescending, but it isn't) as an exercise you might want to jot down some of the idea's you get and instead of trying to implement them into the main DIG story set them aside and try to write a short story on each idea, purely as a writing exercise - you don't have to post them if you don't want to, but really work towards something short and sharp and see whether it helps increase your understanding of pacing and plot for use in your other works. Obviously I'm not saying you need to improve pacing and plot, but it's a nice exercise that also helps you deal with idea's as they pop up.

I'm reading 2 fanfics as i post. I could do more but I want to properly enjoy them. As to when "proper/traditional" SW characters arrive in your Fanfic, that's something you decide. You have a plan, stick to it, or discuss it with your editor.

"Perversions of the Force" is fun, I like WeeMadAndo's new fic, the only thing wrong with Darth Wong's new one is that he's not posting chapters fast enough. I've gotten good comments on some of my own: "Dark Continent", "Good Citizen", "There's No Justice", and "Flight of the Mystere" (my only crossover with my own universe and "Aliens".

I just started reading all these as well, so I'll probably see your name at the "Users Currently Browsing" a lot...
