Trogdor's played the AI so he knows how many you need for sure.

Do you even need to take down planetary shielding to land troops? I thought you didn't.

Landing is not like boarding. I'm fairly sure you can land with shields still up.

How're you going to land with a dozen weapons platforms shooting up the transport as it's coming in range?

Yeah, you can land without bringing down shields.

<edit>I also want to say, since this point of being busy's come up, that if anybody needs to take a break and quit, just say so and no questions asked you could leave, maybe let the AI or another player play your turns for you until you come back a few weeks later. This is more important now that we have three games and two RP threads running, and we're going into exam time so it might happen. Nobody is going to think less of you if you put RL ahead of a game, but better to outright withdraw than dither around.</edit>

-I didn't know you could land with sheilds up; that makes invasions much more doable ... not that isn't a death trap for anything, but a massive fleet.

Which may come sooner than later. Especially since I think the Kryptonians and I share a cluster, and he needs to go through my system to get out. Ouch!

Yes, even more so than in the first game, the only way out is through Nephtys. :)

I wonder how long it'll be until I've got Warp Point openers.

Unless we ally. Since a homeworld system is indestructable. :P

-Personally, I suspect this game won't be over very quickly. I've got the best research so far and it will be ages before I have sufficient tech to threaten a home system. Although I guess you guys might have methods to speed up research that I don't know of....

Nah, me neither. Site must down for some reason. It's happened before, and I'm sure it'll be up again soon enough.

On troop landings on home planets, keep in mind that home worlds house several billion citizens. If if there are no defensive troops to speak of, you're still going to need one HELL of a big army to make an invasion successful.

As far as I can tell, we seem packed very closely together. Personally it wouldn't surprise me to discover that one of us has like half to galaxy to himself or something.

We're all concentrated to the Galactic South-West, it seems. I've located 4 players already and am running low on breathing room.

Poor Guppy too. He's in an even worse jam from bad luck. I envy anyone in the upper right.

Unless the center was hugely empty. In which case any giant Mega Evil Empire would share borders with like 6 other people.

Probably forgot to check "evenly distributed throughout the galaxy"?

I've encountered Tux, Dalton, Neph, and Kryptonians... packed like hell.

Gups got screwed again? Poor guy. Who's the lucky bastard(s) that has access to most of the empty space?

--Actually, the upper right sucks too (not so many systems and at least one player). My home system is bordered by a nebulea and another player, there are only two unoccupied systems within two jumps and two within three (both of these will be whole or partially colonized another player). None of those systems is good for my race although they aren't horribly terrible either. I've already met four players. It's looking like the upper left is vacant or perhaps the middle.

Bah. I have a list (final version to be announced).
  • Get a wedding ring, gold and with Elvish on it would be nice
  • Adopt a kid, preferably one with superpowers
  • Marry Starbuck
  • Get a mortgage and good stock tips
I'm a simple man
