Planetside Reserves is live

Free play until march 24, 2007, limits Battle Rank 6 and Command Rank 2. It's worth trying out! (knowing SOE, mebby not so worth it to pay, but you can see for yourself!)

Personally, I just recently let my account lapse, but I'll be opening a reserves acocunt. playing 4-5 times a month just isn't worth a $12 monthly fee to me.

Planetside huh? I've always wanted to try it. It sounded like a dream game when it word was abuzz. Hrm, what's rank do anyway? Unlockable gear or just a stats show-off thing?

The only unlockable gear is BFR's (requiring a certain number of kills and captures in the caves) and the Vulture(requiring you to earn a merit for # of kills in a Liberator bomber)

basically, Battle Rank gives you more certification points and more implants, so that you can be more flexible without having to re-certify your points (which are on a time) At Battle Rank 6, you get your first implant, which is a Nice Special Ability like being invisible to radar or seeing an enemy's health bar or running faster.

Command Rank gives you access to the Command Uplink Device, which lets you set multiple waypoints for a squad on a map and generally draw up battle plans. Also gives your avatar special decorative bits to show that you have some command rank. Later on in the game it will let you fire off EMP strikes and orbital bombardments, as well as participate in the global command chat.

I used to play this, and loved it. You really need a good outfit though to get the most out of it. I played with BMC on the euro server, they were very strict, but it was both organised and fun. I enjoyed the series view they took on things :D.

However, I stopped when BFRs came out. At first I was excited, but I felt they took away from the outdoor combat I enjoyed so much.
