discussions with fundy friends about religion

Post by The Yosemite Bear »

ok someone got on with me (my friend mike's wife) about if I'm really a Jew or not.

1. My dad was a member of a jewish sect when he married my mom. (his family was jewish, but his mother was Episcapalioan)
2. My mom's family's catholic.

I have been baptised and Brisked

one of my friend's fundy wife brough up the bit about how jewish-ness is only descended from the mother's side.

I pointed out that while I was subjected to both religion's ceremonies as a baby, when I reached 13ish I told both sides of my family in a fit of adolecent angst that I was tired of their arguing leave me the fuck alone. (and thus am neither confirmed or barmitzvaed) the only time I attend Temple or church now is for weddings and funerals. I am still observe some of the rituals, but think of the extended organizations as throughly currupt.

point in fact, I'm Jewish enough to piss off sarah's parents (Boston irish catholics), So what is there to do. Also dealing with extended family, makes these "mixed" relationships really hard, expecially if your one of the adult kids of one of these mixed relationships. I'm still not sure how mike survives being married to a fundy SEventh Day'er....

If you want privacy we just slot this into the HoS and none the wiser.
