Let's face it, would you want to go up against the Brotherhood Of Nod with the full industrial might of Eurasia behind it?
One of the world maps shown in the C&C cutscenes depicts the Middle East and China as supporters of the Brotherhood. I think there might be more to the conflict than just "United Nations force versus terrorist organization".

Uh, no. Tiberian Dawn took place in the mid-90's. Generals takes place around 2010.

That doesn't really explain away the fact that Generals has zero reference to Tiberium or the GDI, and instead is more of a projection of the future of "our" War on Terror, not Tiberium Dawn's future.

Tiberian Dawn and Generals can't be the same timeline. After Tiberian Dawn, all the tiberium mutations and the 'entire most of the planet becoming uninhabitable' issue sets in.

Both are roughly modern era. 15 years isn't a significant difference in technology. Of course, Generals taking place in a later year than TD means it's impossible for Generals to be in the same timeline, because Tiberium really fucks up Mother Earth.

I wasn't trying to argue that Generals was part of the Tiberium continuity, I was just saying that Generals and Tiberian Dawn do not take place at the same time.

The theory that I've always heard (which I admit I always took as canon(if that even applies for a computer game)) is that Red Alert 1 was where the two timelines split.

The Allies Campaign leads on to Red Alert 2, while the Soviet campaign for Red Alert 1 leads on to the Tiberium Dawn/Sun universe.

From another forum I used to visit, apparently there was some proof of this in the crappy first person shooter set in the Tiberium universe.

Ahh, C&C Renegade. Personally, I would consider that by far my favorite of the whole damn series. I grew up on Warcraft and Age of Empires, and I hated, hated Tiberium Sun and the other C&Cs I've played. I don't know if Generals is different (it certainly looks cool), but I have an intense dislike for the way that the original games play. Call me a heretic, if you must. I'll gladly burn at the stake for my beliefs.

Well, I hate everything. C&C was uninspired, I never played any of the Red Alerts, and Tiberium Sun had 20mm cannon with a range of about fifteen metres.

Renegade, of course, was a terrible shooter.

Somehow, I am remarkably unsuprised. :P

Indeed. Infact, some of the cut scenes indicate that most of the worlds nations have areas occupied by each faction, including the United States. North Western Europe appears to be the only pure GDI area on the planet. And yeah, most of Asia, and IIRC, South America (and or Africa), is NOD.

I loved TS and got Firestorm too, not played in a while, but used to have plenty of games with school mates years back over my crappy 56k modem. RA was the first step I took in the C&C universe which I got around December '96 for my birthday and quite simply fell in love. I never did get RA2 or the second expansion for RA after the Aftermath one. I also had Tiberian Dawn too, though it screwed my sound up for a while, I recall it was a pain finding out how to fix it when I wanted to go see the Special Editions of SW in the cinema.

I don't know, I never got RA2 because it was corny and intentionally comic book like compared to the serious original. It somewhat put me off being so tongue-in-cheek, though I heard friends having plenty of great LAN games I missed out on.

Of course, Kane lives on, for he is a motherfucker who will not stay dead.

I'd recommend Generals too, even if it is only C&C in name, it was still enjoyable, if not with the same atmosphere as the true C&C franchise.

So you hate an entire franchise you've hardly played and are now resorting to nitpicking in game physics in an RTS with bases built in minutes?!

Par for the course for Stark.

I was always a fan of the RA series, personally, I just never got over how cool tesla coils were.

I borrowed TS ages ago and didn't play much of it, because I kept playing it like RA2, which I'd gotten really efficient at playing, so I ended up sucking at it.

It should be noted that there is now a game pack out that has all of the official C&Cs and expansion packs. Yuri's Revenge is now next to impossible to find in games shops, as I found while working in one. It's an amazing game, though, well worth getting, much more so than the 'craft games in my opinion, much better GUI.

For the british fans, check out play.com. I am so getting this since I've lost all my C&C cds.

That thing was so awesome.

I found Renegade quite enjoyable online, but the campaign wasn't much.

I liked TS as well, except for those bastard Hunter-Seekers. IIRC, there was a mod that replaced the NOD one with an "asteroid destabler" that was much less accurate but could be used more often, and gave GDI airdrops of troops instead.

Hell, by TS, Nod has more than half of the world in its fist. While you're installing the game, they show you various news articles, one of which being "Nod Influence soars" or something of that nature. The Brotherhood did begin as just the Third World united, though.

South America was roughly 50/50. The US and Canada were totally GDI, as was Russia.

Nod had a lot of influence in Tiberian Dawn because the intro movie at one point shows that Nod controls something like 45% of the world's Tiberium.

Tiberium is really what allowed Nod to move out into the open.

The First Decade is somewhat buggy; some maps in C&C will crash if your units get too close to the top, only recently did they release a patch which fixed the cutscenes in Red Alert, and despite the fact that a third-party was able to release a workaround which allowed you to play network games in C&C on Win2K/XP, EA still could not be arsed to make an official fix for it for The First Decade.

Plus, the most recent Generals patch exists purely because EA could not get regular Generals to play alongside TFD Generals without it.

Beat'cha to it. :P Except I found that RA1 doens't like my new Athlon64, and likes WindowsXP even less. Having not felt like screwing with it, I just plugged it into my rock of a box, and I'm now playing it on an old 500MHz P3 that RA1 is loving. 8) It's great.

RA1 just needs to be patched, then run in Win95 compatibility mode. The installer also needs to be run in compatibility mode.

I found this nifty piece on gamefaqs.com. It's the written history of the C&C universe, though it cuts out RA2 and Generals (I'm sure it was written well before Generals ever came out, not sure about RA2, though). I've no idea if it's official or not, though.

Gamefaqs doesn't allow direct linking, so just search for RA1 on their page and go to the game's FAQ section if you want to see it.

Well, the idea is that RA1 is the past of the Tiberium series(Kane appears in the Soviet campaign, and the foundations for GDI are laid in the Allied Campaign), but the timeline diverges after that. One goes on to Tiberium Dawn/Renegade, and the other goes to RA2/Yuri's revenge.

If they do try to merge the C&C timelines, I hope we get to have Havoc and Tanya work together.

A good find; it makes for a decent read, even if the grammar is a bit choppy. However wrote it should be commended for their research. Still, it is depressing to think that the story will probably never be finished. :?

Wouldn't she be in her 80s or something by Renegade? I don't think she'd be much of a commando. :P

Of course, RA does have time travel thrown around like a toy so they might be able to jump to other timelines.
