The Evolution of Your Usernames

Post by HemlockGrey »

How many usernames have you had over the ages? I started out with 'Challenger' for two years and then after a while I went over to 'Cyril' for two years and now I've got 'HemlockGrey', thank to the auspicious and muchly under-appreciated Lord Wong.

My very first username I ever used was the ultra-creative Dave.

After that, I went from Bratboy, The_Brat and Temjin.

Now though, when I sign up for a new board, I'll ussualy go with Darfasti.

Started out as Anders Russell.

Then moved to WeeMadAndo.

Been that ever since.

For ATJ, AIIF and other crusades I'll use a variant on the WMA initials.

I first posted to ASVS as Rob.Wn5 as that was my Intranet address name and I posted from work without knowing to change it, rather than mess around and change I simply made sure it was the same on my home machine and Rob.wn5 I've been on ASVS ever since. However whenever I sign up to a new place (rare) I use my real name (what I would have used on ASVS if I'd known to do it in the first place.).

No non de plumes I'm afraid, just boring old Rob Wilson. MAybe i should change it to Plain Vanilla. :D

I started out with dde as my name for any single player game I did. Then I signed up for Westwood Chat to play Red Alert and that name was taken. So I choose Alyeska and have used that name ever since. From time to time I find it taken somewhere so I alter it with clan/squadron/tribe/member names for a group I might be part of or I place 23 at the end of the name.

Well, people started calling me "Countess" because I have a tendency to prefer a nighttime schedule, and the allusion was of course to, ah, the feminine version of a certain Transylvanian's title.

So my handle was "Countess Marina" as a local poster on Warships1 forums on EZBoard for a long time; but then I wanted to post at other EZBoards at got a global account. Needed a different name for it.

Continuing the nobility theme I decided that my favourite little Iron Duchy from the Dark Side of the Moon would be appropriate - Zeon, home to orbital habitats, hopeless resistance against an omnipresent one-world government, and pointless militarism. I especially like the orbital habitats; I think we could use some O'Neil Island IIIs as soon as technologically feasable.

(I remember one time getting in a debate with the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, advocating concentrating the resources of our society on an effort to move our entire population into space, and then letting the Earth return to a pastoral state, saying that the damage done over that time period would not be irrecoverable for the planet. It REALLY got them riled up. I liked that.)

So, "The Duchess of Zeon" it was. And I've alternatively used the two since.

I've used Next of Kin as a message board name for the last 5 years. There really isn't a grandiose story that goes along with it. I though it had a nice ring to it. When I choose a handle, I always ask myself if the name would fly in the WWE!

That's an AOL SN I used for a post-apocalyptic online RPG.

I started with ion thrust just cause I thought it was cool, then I got loner123 or loner153 or the loner after reading the book "the loner", then I got sultan suleyman or sultan seljuk or sultan osman after the turks becom my favorite civ in age of empires and then raw blade, then I got laserbeambandit for newgrounds, and finally armorpierce after being armor piercing in Counterstrike. I missed a few and may have got the dates for some of them wrong.
