Mecha vs. RAH's Mobile Infantry

Post by MKSheppard »

*Gundams and other various mecha are standing around yakking
to each other, when all of a sudden, they all see a dot on the
horizon....they all discount it as it's too small to be a threat*

Moments later, the nukes begin arriving as the MI does too

Well, I suppose the original Mecha will always prove to be the best, in that case... Um...

Mobile Infantry, Robert A. Heinlein, Starship Troopers.

Widely rumored to be the first power armor in SF. Doc Smith may have done it first in Galactic Patrol, but his description is sufficiently brief and open to interpretation that I'm more than willing to give the title of Inventor of Power Armor to Heinlein.

Unlike the Horrid movie, these guys look like the Michelin Man, can leap real far, and can pack Kiloton grade Handgrenades, Megaton Gread anti-armour weapons, and an Internal Flame Thrower. The suits average about 9' in height, and are very agile. Generally flying low to ground, or jumping over a mile at a time.

Fairly basic.

Of course their Flame throwers are proably an internal Laser, or closer to an HG Wells Heat gun.

They could well be regular flamethrowers, since they seem to have been used as anti-infantry and terror weapons. I particularly like the "bitch bomb." I'll let someone else explain it, though, because I don't think I could do it weel (especially not at 3:20 am).

Yeah, I know, except that where the fuck did they get the space for the Liquid fuel for a conventional flame thrower?

That's why I think it's probably a laser based system, or a Microwave based system. Get the terror effect, and don't have to store Napalm in a nuclear powered suit.

Maybe they use a system like a meltagun.

Those are said to be "devastating short-ranged heat rays" in WH40K.

Jumping over a mile

Now that'd be a strange sight to see, thousands of men bunny-hopping their way across the landscape.

Yeah,
Also if it's just a Fusion Beam (Melta gun/Martian Heat Ray) it would produce combustion in any object subjected to the heat, provided enough power is behind it.

That's pretty much how the MI get around, 'on the bounce'.

Of course you'd be hard pressed to spot that many of them at once given the kind of formation dispersion they get (and they also don't usually jump to high as it leaves you sitting in the air to be shot at)

Yeah, it's more of a case of snake skimming the earth flight, just they can't steer as well when they jump.

Hnce the name Mobile Infantry.

Well, jump-jet troops are a hell of a lot more mobile than Space Marine Terminators.

What, didn't you know? The MI battlesuit is the precursor to all Mecha!

Well, it may be a case of convergent evolution, with robot as mecha's father.

Nope. It's the ONLY realistic design. All the other designs that followed
are just Japanese Anime wank fests....

Someone, tell SAMAS why human infantry is still around......

NOTE: It isn't because we're bipedal...

Great. Just great. Now I've got a mental image of Quatre and Duo from GW hugging Micheal Ironside, with all of them in their respective "suits" (pretending, for a moment, that Micheal Ironside is playing his respective part from the book Starship Troopers).

You're going to hell for this...

Actually THE Ojisan to all Japanese mecha can be traced all the way back to 1898 with H.G.Wells War of the Worlds .What do you think the Martain War Machines were
Brotherhood of the Bear Monkey Clonemaster , Anti Care Bears League,
Bureaucrat and BOFH of the HAB,
Skunk Works director of the Mecha Maniacs,
