SW Ground battle games?

Post by Nightbringer »

I was wondering weather or not a game has been produced to provide an accurate version of a Star Wars ground battle. Battlefront was designed for multiplayer so it isn't an accurate portrayal, is there a game that does this?

Battlefront is the closest approximation (64 players works out well) but there's still a lot of cuts made for the sake of balancing (suicide crashing into an AT-AT should do more damage) and it feels a lot more disorganized (I mean, there's the chaos of the battlefield and all, but watch AOTC, the two sides clash directly, while it feels like you're just running around killing guys sometimes in Battlefront).

well its a bit hard, you always have balancing issues if you make it too accurate. In your case you possibly right in the fact that battlefront is the most accurate representation in games, but remember that a lot of things have changed for the sake of gameplay and balance

Agreed, but I think it would be good if a game was made where YOU had complete control of a fleet, similar to galactic conquest on Battlefront 2, except that the layout of planets and the ground battles were more realistic.

well only Clone Wars era (or some of the pre-PT EU era) have even of being both accurate and fun to play, the Galactic Civil war (aka OT) era is horribly unbalanced (in terms of any ground campains) that to make it fun to play will make inaccurate (accurately the Rebels would have a snow balls chance in hell of winning any ground battles against the Empire).
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

...As in Empire at War? I admit it isn't ALL that accurate, but its not too bad. To be enjoyable to play, there have to be concessions in accuracy; if it was 100% accurate the Empire would always win, unless of course its set in the EU.

Off the top of my head:

SW: Galactic Battlegrounds. That's an AoE mod, mind you, so it probably doesn't really count, nor do the 'Clone Campaigns' mod.

SW: Force Commander. Rather shite game, but it did give you the nice feature of being able to squish enemy troops with AT-AT's.

SW: Rebellion. Space combat and the like.

Virtually all the SW flight sims have space battle sequences; IIRC, in X-Wing Alliance you get to fly in the battle of Endor, and in the original X-wing you could attack the Death Star I at the battle of Yavin.

Empire at War: Latest RTS. Has received somewhat meh ratings, but could be worth at try.

That's about it, I fear. Battlefront's already been adequately covered.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

I have a useful method... I take the anti-vehicle unit (can't remember name, with the rocket launcher!), and before I take off, I simply stick all my mines on the nose of my snowspeeder.... :D

This usually kills a brand new AT-AT in one crash - aim for the neck. :D

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,--
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
