Oh, that reminds me. My friends who went told me the food was equivalent of something like lunch at school. Really pathetic.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

I bought a ticket, but sold it (at cost) to a friend who hadn't gotten one. Didn't enjoy high school that much, and figured he'd have a better time.

Didn't go, couldn't have cared less. Only school function like that that I ever attended was a Halloween dance, and that's because I was working there. I got to wear a sweet, sweet knight costume.

My high school's prom is in a month. I'm not planning on going, but I have been thinking about planning a get-together with a few friends that evening (who are also planning on not going, as far as I know), or inviting one of my friends out to dinner as a possible first date (I think we've been subtly flirting whenever we see each other -- which, admittedly, isn't very often -- for several weeks now, so I'm curious to see what comes of this).
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Yep, I went. It took some convincing to get my then-girlfriend to go because we had decided we weren't going to continue going out after I graduated and she thought it was going to be awkward (it wasn't a serious relationship). We ended up going, though, and had a really good time.

I went last year and did have some fun (no date though.) I probably won't be going this year, though. I have a hard time caring. As far as I'm concerned, I've already been there and done that. I'm not too attached to the kids at school this year compared to last year, either.

Which is too bad, since my school's proms are very nice. Last year they rented a country club place. It was extremely fine. They had an ice sculpture, mini cheescakes, petit fours, REAL punch, all that jazz. For about fourty people. It was pretty sweet (the cheescakes alone that I ate would have cost over the $7 entry fee.)
"The rest of the poem plays upon that pun. On the contrary, says Catullus, although my verses are soft (molliculi ac parum pudici in line 8, reversing the play on words), they can arouse even limp old men. Should Furius and Aurelius have any remaining doubts about Catullus' virility, he offers to fuck them anally and orally to prove otherwise." - Catullus 16, Wikipedia

Didn't go and never regretted it.

I was a massive loser back in high school. I don't like big parties. Couldn't dance then and can't dance now. My school was perpetually short on cash so I'm sure it wasn't a lavish affair. I didn't see the point of spending the money to rent a tux and such so I could stand around awkwardly for a few hours and have the nicer girls offer to dance with me out of pity.

Straha! You've made all these bad memories of high school resurface! I'll get you for this!

Why are all the non-going options "staying home"? How about going to a better party? Not all of us live in Bumblefuck, USA where the prom is the only social event in the town. :P

I'm not paying $40 to go to a party I know I'll enjoy, so I'm definitely not paying $106 to listen to music I probably won't like with people who, for the most part, I know I don't like

I stayed home and worked on a 1:100 Gudnam Wing Sandrock Custom model kit with Uts.

I did go to the post-prom party, though, and had a good time at that.

I went, and had a good time.

I did an opening address in Klingon, and at one point stole the show on the dance floor.

After party was dull though, because it was on a Thursday night, we couldn't do much at the house where it was hosted. Plus everyone wanted to be drunk ASAP.

Such as we had, being in England, we only had a leaver's ball, but yes.

I went, got riotously drunk, danced like a prat, and haven't seen any of the people in my year again in the last eight years.

Winner!

My old high school allowed juniors and seniors to attend prom. I blew it off junior year, and mainly attended my senior year just to say I did it. Being that this was me we're talking about, I went stag. The only expenses were the tux rental and the cost of a ticket (no fancy dinner, and I got dropped off and picked up by my father.) Out of that, I believe I had a fairly good time, I got to dance with people of the female persuasion, and a friend of mine encouraged me to feel her up while we were dancing.

I went and had a good time. I probably spent waayyy to much on it, but I know that I would have regretted not going. So I'm glad I went, besides, watching the sun rise over the ocean on our "after trip" to Galveston was nice, even if the water is disgusting.

That about sums up my experience, although I went even further on the cost-cutting and A) used my school concert band tuxedo, and B) had a dinner of Ramen noodles at home before going. :D

Given that I didn't blow a huge amount of money on it, and mostly enjoyed myself, I think it was worth it.

Junior: Asked a girl, got turned down, and went to the official after-prom, and had a good time. I was the only person to find the massive security hole they left (They left the front door to the school unlocked).

Senior: Asked a different girl (whom I had gone on a date with not 2 weeks ago), got turned down, went anyway, enjoyed myself. I actually had to avoid a large group of drunk girls who I think were trying to molest me. About 2 hours in, the girl whom I asked showed up - in a blouse and kahkis. We hung out at after-prom and did "You don't bring me flowers" in duet for the Kariokie.

Oh and a tip about saving money. Don't rent a tux. Get a White Shirt and a black bowtie. Ususally it's too dark, and everyone is too drunk to tell the difference. I saved a good 50$ my senior year by doing this.

No, I did not go.

I had planned on asking a girl with whom I had a crush on for a few years, but by the time I got up the nerve to ask her, she already a boyfriend...

I went. I enjoyed it. Good food, good dancing, good friends. Expensive, but worth it, I think; it is only a one time deal. Although, I think I enjoyed the after party more than I did the actual Prom dancing part.

Oh, I forgot to mention that my prom was on MTV. Have no clue if I ended up on it, but there's a fair chance that yes, I was on MTV .

What if you didn't do either?

Post by LORDDOOMMASTER »

I didn't go to the prom (either junior or senior year), but I didn't stay home either. I worked, both times. After I got off work, I met up with all my friends at the after-prom parties, and fun was had.

I doubt I missed anything good, I wasn't then and still am not a dancing person. So rather than spending a huge amount of money, I made some money and still got to have plenty of fun after.

I was a junior last year and went with my crush who I asked - I had a great time, although it was pretty damn expensive. This year - I don't know. Maybe.

Went my junior year and was bored out of my mind.

I almost managed to avoid it completely my Senior year, but ended up having to save a drunk friend.

It was pretty terrible. I don't dance, I don't mingle with people, I don't do much of anything. Luckily, there was a Ms. Pac Man arcade game in a corner which I played a few rounds on, and also I had my trusty lightsabre, and one of the other Star Wars geeks I know had his as well, so we did have one duel, but it wasn't even a good fight. I spent most the time standing around waiting for my ride to come back to I could go home.

It was a collsial waste of 7 hours.
So you went to prom with an attractive girl that ASKED you to go with her and you spend the entire time playing Pacman and dueling with fake lightsabers? What the hell is wrong with you? And who brings a lightsaber to their own fuckin prom? I hope the girl ditched your ass as soon as you got there.

I went to prom with this girl from my US Gov class because I was temporarily broken up with the smoking hot girl friend :banghead:

Anyway, my buddy asks me if I'm going to sleep with her, and I say I wouldn't mind, I swear, this is what I said, not a lick of ass covering here. Her friend over hears and as I'm outside bullshiting with my friends, this fucktard pulls me aside and tells me that if I rape her like I say I'm going to, he's going to beat my ass down. :?

So the who prom party migrates to my friends house where I get my first taste of liqor, and procede to down vodka until I have trouble finding fucking up. I went on a 15 minute rant about how much I like pudding and why. My friend Erin spends the remainder of the night making sure I'm not assualted by the prom date, who at one point tried to get my pants off and put my dick in the light bulb socket of the lamp. Or so I'm told.

Anyway. I wake up to the sounds of my friend losing her virginity, well, she lost it the night before, she was just having another go around at this point, on the bathroom counter.

So I wake up, hung over, with my other friend standing gaurd, and sex in the ajoining bathroom.

So yes, I went to prom. Any other questions?
The Zen of Not Fucking Up.
