This can be interpreted to mean that the asteroid 'smashed' the ISD, but didn't necessarily destroy the tower, e.g. i could smash a brick wall with my fist, and the brick wall wouldn't care. 'That destruction' could just mean that the antennas/comm-equipment got busted, hence the video cut-out.Q. In Episode V when the Empire is looking for the Millennium Falcon in the asteroid field, Lord Vader is talking with some of his officers via hologram. The hologram image on his far left looks like he shields himself from something, then the image disappears. Was the destroyer that he was in get hit by an asteroid?
A. Well spotted. That is indeed what happens -- the Star Destroyer's conning tower gets smashed in the preceding establishing shot. For an entire generation, the punch line to that destruction was cropped out of Empire.
Anyone miss this or is it old? Star Wars Q & A

It could just as well refer to the asteroid which was totalled.Winston Blake wrote:This can be interpreted to mean that the asteroid 'smashed' the ISD, but didn't necessarily destroy the tower, e.g. i could smash a brick wall with my fist, and the brick wall wouldn't care. So I guess you guys are thinking the Imperial in the hologram was not actually killed, but maybe just freaking out from the sight of the Asteroid doing minor damage?
fun/fantasy movies existed before the overrated Star Wars came out. What made it seem 'less dark' was the sheer goofy aspect of it: two robots modeled on Laurel & Hardy, and a smartass outlaw with bigfoot co-pilot and their hotrod pizza-shaped ship, and they were sucked aboard a giant Disco Ball. -adw1
Someone asked me yesterday if Dracula met Saruman and there was a fight, who would win. I just looked at this man. What an idiotic thing to say. I mean really, it was half-witted. - Christopher Lee

No, (IMO) its pretty clear he dies. The how and why, however, are a bit more tricky.Kurgan wrote:So I guess you guys are thinking the Imperial in the hologram was not actually killed, but maybe just freaking out from the sight of the Asteroid doing minor damage?

if the EU has taught me anything...
Are you sure? Maybe he faked his own death and joined the Rebellion. And he probably ended up being a Jedi too, I bet!Noble Ire wrote:No, (IMO) its pretty clear he dies.
