Okay, I have a Compaq Presario desktop running WindowsXP on an Athlon processor. (Some folks will say "there's your problem!" but bear with me).
I would go to bed at night and put the system on "Hibernate". But then I'd wake up in the morning, and it would be on, re-activated sometime during the night. It used to be that it would happen maybe once or twice a month, but now it happens three times a week or more.
I Hibernated the computer and shut off the modem, in case it was somehow being remote-accessed, but it still activated. Spyware and virusware (Symantec) find nothing amiss or alarming. There have been no new programs added that would auto-start the computer to access online upgrades, either.
Anyone else had this happen, and any ideas what it may be?
Thank you in advance for any insight provided.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

You have wake on LAN or other wake on x features enabled in the BIOS? Most especially an option to wake after power failure?

Even if it's just wake on mouse. A slight vibration can cause your mouse to send a data packet with updated location information. Like Beowulf said, check to make sure that you don't have any other devices capable of waking windows from hibernation. Not all of them will necessarily be in the BIOS. For the most part, it's anything that can cause a hardware interrupt. (USB and firewire devices, mouse, keyboard, and ethernet/modem should be your prime suspects. Devices connected to older I/O ports, like printer ports and comm ports, can also cause interrupts.)
