GTA:SA Question

Post by Enigma »

When do I get to buy the car dealership in San Fierro? I finished the game yet that property is still not available to be bought.

Sorry for the hijack but I have a question myself: I have the PC version of the game, and I'm up to the mission where you have to steal a harrier from the carrier in San Fierro. Given the rubbish plane controls on the PC, I find it completely and utterly impossible to engage the pursuing fighters; just flying is hard enough, never mind trying to shoot ungruided missiles at other planes.

Does anyone have any tips? Is there an easier way?

The missiles on the Harrier are guided, hold down the fire key to allow them to lock on then release to fire (i think. It's been a while. But I assure you the missiles are in fact guided.)

I certainly had no problems flying the harrier in any case, the controls with keyboard aren't very hard at all...

Did you forget to properly vector the thrust?

I destroyed two of the enemy fighters just by flying under the Golden Gate Bridge and 2 crashed into it and died.

ie, hold down 8 on the numpad to convert from helicopter to aeroplane flight (and hold 5 to turn back). Hold the button for a second or so, just pressing it doesn't wok.

Nope. Just complete it by getting at least in bronze every event.

They are guided, but for the life of me I can't remember how.

Also, one way to make it easier is to use the M4/rocket launcher/whatever to blow up the two harriers on the carrier you aren't stealing (I think it's two, but either way destroy all aircraft except the one you want to fly). That way you only have to deal with one enemy.

I've got a problem with both driving schools. The first test is to do a 360 burnout. I managed to do a burnout but it doesn't do a donut. What gives?

To do the donut, you have to hold down a sideways key as well. I cant remember if its an arrow key or a or d (one set doesnt make you turn) then you just turn round 360 degrees (but not 359 or 361 damnit!)

One thing i hate about those school things is that you have to string together a whole series of things that are quite often within the error range of the controls. Meaning that no matter how good you are, it is still a bit random whether or not you can actually perform the task to gold standard, and practically impossible to do so consistently.

For the harrier, just run away and keep launching chaff and the persuers will manage to kill themselves most likely. I think lock on is hold down space

From what I heard, some keyboards don't let you hold down multiple keys and still have them register. I think the max I heard one time was three (which is what it takes to do the burnout: accelerate, handbrake, and turn).

As for golds in general, some are almost pathetically easy (and some just plain fun, like the Parachute Onto Target at pilot's school), while others almost insane (yeah, sure I'll get gold on driving school's City Slicker, consider half the time some car that CAME OUT OF NOWHERE clips me and thus gives me the damage penalty... :x ).

But then the only "gold prize" I ever wanted was the Hunter anyway. Now if only I could master Circle Airstrip and Land (the others are all gold in my game IIRC)...

The best I ever managed to do with the harriers was by taking off, then flying evasive round San Fierro, I managed to lose two into buildings, then crashed myself.
Thanks for the tips :)

To lock on the harrier missles you have to hold fire until the reticule turns red, then you have to press alternate fire.

Best way IMHO to configure the controls for flight is to use the arrows for pitch and roll and 'Q' and 'E' for yaw, with your middle finger on the throttle. Let space bar be fire and NUM0 be alternate fire.

Yeah, I had that problem withan MS internet keyboard; I ended up reassigning Left temporarily to the LMB, then reassigning it bak when I had passed.

Then had to do that again for the motorcycle school :)
