Executor vs 10 star destroyers
Who do you think would win in say a space invironment no real invironmental variables?
Or how many normal star destroyers do you think would equal in combat one superstar destroyer (executor)

Re: Executor vs 10 star destroyers
Okay, two things. First, the Executor (for example), would win easily against ten Star Destroyers. You're making the common mistake of forgetting that they exist in three dimensions. The Executor is over ten times as long as a normal Star Destroyer, but it is also at least twice as high and wide. A (very) rough estimate would put it at at least 40 SDs by that count. Who knows, I don't have the patience to do an actual comparison and calculation, but I assure that the number will be in that ballpark. Of course, part of it also depends on how much reactor capacity and how many weapons systems the Executor has, and they may not scale directly, but I assure you they are high.need4spd wrote:Who do you think would win in say a space invironment no real invironmental variables?

Yet we have seen super star destroyer taken out by less than large scale fleets. The Alliance fleet took one out so couple of question pop up how many Allince capital ship where there and how do they compare to ISDs
Also in one of the books forget the name a SSD was taken out by a bunch of freighters firing proton torpedoes.
So we have two instance where an Executor class SSD were destroyed or heavy damaged.

That was the Lusankya, it was downed by litterally hundreds upon hundreds of Proton Torpedoes. I think thats an exception.dragon wrote:Yet we have seen super star destroyer taken out by less than large scale fleets. The first volley was 80 torpeodes and it took down their shields and did lots of damage to the infrastrucure. But how many torps can a Star Destroyer fire at once.Ace Pace wrote:That was the Lusankya, it was downed by litterally hundreds upon hundreds of Proton Torpedoes. A Victory-Star destroyer has roughly 80 concussion missle tubes, unknown number of reloads.

I wasn't saying that those sources were bullshit, but novels which have things like a single Mon Cal going up against a SSD and surviving.Ford Prefect wrote:Quality, not quantity. Would the Executor really win against 10 ISDs? I'm rather doubtful - it got it's bridge shields down even battling a handful of Calamaris and small rebel ships, which concentrated fire - all that with other ISDs around, too. So just one SSD against 10 ISDs would probably lose badly, since it would be easy to knock off it's shields. And once that is done, the ISDs blow Executor's tower to hell.
The only way for the Executor to win would be a smartass commander who would NOT stay on the bridge while it's destroyed and move to the reserve bridge. However, such commanders and such actions are rare in the Empire

Those weren't fired by the X-Wings. And the Lusankya was in a bad condition anyway.dragon wrote:The first volley was 80 torpeodes and it took down their shields and did lots of damage to the infrastrucure. There were more than one Home One-type ships there, each one about 3.8 km long. Also, what we see on screen is a lower limit. Canon sources stated that the Rebel fleet stretched further than the eye could see.Stas Bush wrote:Would the Executor really win against 10 ISDs? There is a backup bridge. What happened in ROTJ would NOT have destroyed Executor under normal circumstances. The concentrated fire of the entire Rebel fleet took down the bridge shields for a short period of time, but the rest of the ship was intact. If there wasn't a Death Star to crash into, the backup bridge would have taken control and the ship would have fought on.The only way for the Executor to win would be a smartass commander who would NOT stay on the bridge while it's destroyed and move to the reserve bridge. The Independence was there, and it was confirmed on OS Q&A as being of the same design as the HO, so that's two of them. Then there's the second ship getting fragged by the DS II. It looks like the HO design from the still-frame. (And I inspected it, and found it to have more similarities with the HO model than the Liberty model).
At Endor, the large rebel fleet "stretched as far as eye can see" with "hundreds of commanders" while being "decimated" was able to cause damage to the Executor which caused maneouvering problems (prior the attack of the fighters returning from the DS!). On the other hand it was only fortune that the right side cannon hit the extremely vulnerable window. (As I remember, the consoles which took the rest of the fighter right under the window, did not even deformed!)
I think 10 star destroyers would be able to win it (we know from Ackbar's comment that distance gives relative safety), but would not be able to prevent the SSD from withdrawing.

In the X-wing books a SSD is not that powerful, two star destroyers are more than capable of atleast holding thier ground, as well as doing considerable damage to its weaponry. And later a few fighter are capable of actually destroying one!!!! (the one Zinj steals from Kuat i think)
I think one of the common themes is that a SSD is more of a sign of prowess & power than an actual military vessel, with its shear size and cost making it considerably less efficient than the number of normal ships you could buy for one, let alone the crew requirments! I think Pelleon says that the Executor bankrupted the empire with its rushed construction for Vader. So basically its more of a penis extension than a war ship.
Back to the original point I believe the ten star destroyers would win, but this would depend on the situation (wether the 10 SDs with only ties can get those shield domes) aswell as your own interpretation of the power of the SSD weaponry.

only 5000! each one demolishing an imperia SD in a couple of shots! thats quite optimistic in my opinionThere may be 5000 guns on the Executor, yet each one of those could be capable of demolishing an Imperator in only a few shots.
Get busy living or get busy dying... unless there’s cake.
LOL SHIELD DOMES! EXECUTOR BANKRUPTED THE EMPIRE!
Stas, I honestly don't remember where it's from. I imagine it's from either the ROTJ novelisation or one of the post-Endor novels that deals with the Admirals that were there - all I can say is it isn't in the Canon database.
EDIT - found it: ROTJ novelisation, p169. '...three Rebel Star Cruisers headed for the huge Imperial Super Star Destroyer, Vader's flagship, which seemed to be having difficulties with its guidance system.' This is all before the rebels focus their fire on Executors power generators, so no significant damage could have been done to her. She was not at 100%, and was almost certainly outmaneuvered by the rebel ships.
