Hyperdrive power generators must use other dimensional matter for their fusion reactor generators. Because the sustaining burning the sun requries is 8.5 billion pounds of matter a second!

So a Executor would need to burn 340 times that amount. Then again the sun doesn't completely destroy matter. Most of the process is just converting hydro to helium.

Hypermatter reactors use annhilation reactions not fusion. How it works is anyones guess there are many processes which could be termed as annihilation. Anti-matter & matter annhilation is one type; while blackhole catalysed annihilation is another. A blackhole catalysed annihilation system is superior in that it would allow total mass annihilation without the potential hazzards of antimatter. While no process is 100% efficient, annhilation is nearly so, and thus far more effective than nuclear fusion.

EDIT - found it: ROTJ novelisation, p169. '...three Rebel Star Cruisers headed for the huge Imperial Super Star Destroyer, Vader's flagship, which seemed to be having difficulties with its guidance system.' This is all before the rebels focus their fire on Executors power generators, so no significant damage could have been done to her. She was not at 100%, and was almost certainly outmaneuvered by the rebel ships.

Was this the result of sabotage or is it a flaw for all ships of the class? Or just a flaw of the Executor that's been corrected in later production ships?

The context suggests to me that something was wrong with Executor - the rebels didn't think 'lol, that Executor design is a real stinker', they thought 'hmm, I wonder why Executor is behaving so oddly'. Who knows *why*, but it's a neat setup for Executors death-dive.

The way I see it, the Executor was destroyed by half an hour of bombardment (when she was unable to return fire or move) and a short period of focus-fire, when she was still unable to return fire or maneuver.

This is reasonably common to the Executor-kills: they are seldom used at full capacity. It's one thing to kill a stationary, silent warship - quite another to engage a maneuvering ship spamming out fire. The crew of the Lusyanka were certainly EU-Imperial standard morons.

I feel there are two things that really need pointed out with regards to the defeat of the Lusankya.

First of all it had been buried on Coruscant since it was built. it was improperly crewed due to being used as Isards personal prison.

Secondly Lusankya did not die in that battle. I was merely heavily damaged. The afore mentioned Waroen shot Drysso and surrendered the ship. The ship itself was recoverable, and was used to great effect in later EU.

Thanks to Nightmare, we have some more interesting information. In that qoute it is stated that torpedos are hitting the bow 6 kilometers away from the captain at the bridge, meaning the Lusankya was one of those 7 kilometer SSDs. Thus, comparing it to the Executor would be a waste since they are different classes of ship with only a superficial resemblance.

I realize there is no official statement mentioning two SSD classes, but there is nothing that says the Executor and the Lusankya are the same either. The only comment for comparison was that both Fondor and Kuat thought they had made the Executor, were the Kuat vessel was hidden on Coruscant while the Fondor vessel used by Lord Vader. The Lusankya is only described as an SSD, not as a sistership to the Executor. In fact, having them built at different shipyards indicates they probably were different ships, as Kuat tends to be rather protective of their designs.

Does anyone have any information about the sizes of the Iron Fist, Razor's Kiss, or Knight Hammer? I know the Razor's Kiss was built at Kuat, which might indicate it as a sistership for the Lusankya. The Iron Fist I have no idea on origin, but I got the impression it was of similar scale to the Razor's Kiss. As for the Knight Hammer, it was built by an independent warlord and I doubt they have any information on were they got their design.

The SSD length bug was officialy acknowledged some time ago. Now we don't have to wonder: it was a bug all along, all "8 km" SSDs are in fact, really, 19 km. But the authors have already overused the 8km figure. Such are the consequences bad research.
