Describe the Infernal's abilities, please. Generalize if you must.

Okay, first here's the stats for a Human peasant (non-combat worker):

HP (Hit Points): 220
Armor: 0
Speed: Slow(190)
Ground Attack Damage: 5.5 avg (normal axe)

That was for a point of reference. Now here's the stats for the infernal:

HP: 1500
Armor: 6
Speed: Fast(320)
Ground Attack Damage: 54.5 avg (Chaos-based attack. Does damage to divine beings)

And here's a wallpaper pic of the Infernal:

From what I know (I haven't played that far into WC3 yet), the Infernal uses melee fighting, but its enchanted with chaos energy. In that wallpaper pic, the human and the orc fought the infernal and were torn to pieces.

The infernal has more HP than many buildings, and has more HP than some heroes (super-units) as well. That's all I can say.

Some people here have played WC3 and they may be able to post more info.

Oh, and the infernal is smaller than the balrog. I'd say the infernal is about around 15-18 feet tall.

Well, with no other info, I'd say the Balrog wins thanks to its sword and whip.

The orignal is almost always superior to the imitator.

I'd like to add: if the Barlog is larger, that gives him a reach advantage, which means his sword will be even more effective.

I've played WC III and these things always freaked me out and drew my attention away from the real danger, which were the hero characters that were dishing out the real damage. They were easy to take down with one or two hero characters and a lot of projectile shooters (archers etc.) ganging up on them. They were also pretty stupid, attacking the nearest building and not taking out my hero characters.

I'd say the Balrog was nastier for all the reasons in the above posts and because in Fellowship they didn't even think about fighting it...

Ah, yes.
Do you know a simple Wand of Negation will kill those suckers?
Or any dispelling spell?
I say Balrog.
Infernals are cool, but Balrogs will win any day.
Except that we can see hundreds of Infernals crashing to the Earth in the second cinematic. :D

What do you mean?
That they can't be dispelled?
I have version 1.04, the latest one, and I can dispell Infernals with two wands of negation.

Question: Would you stand and fight a 20 metre tall winged beast of fire charging towards you, with your bastard sword?

Wouldn't see me for dust.

If we equate the Fellowship to low-level heroes (save Gandalf, he's a high level hero) and send them into combat with the Infernal, it should be relatively easily defeated. Seeing as "Swords are no more use here" in the case of the Balrog, we could consider him immune to physical damage. Given that, and the fact that Gandalf ONLY just squeaked out a victory at the expense of his life, I'd say the Balrog wins this one hands down.

The Infernal's damage isn't physical though. Also, Infernals are immune to magic, though I don't know if that would help against the Balrog or not.

Doubtful. Even if the Balrog's sword and whip become usless, it stoll holds the advantage in a slugging match.

In that case, Diablo beats the Balrog :D. (Yeah, I know LotR the book came before Diablo, but the *visual* style of the Balrog from the movies is quite similar to the older Diablo).

But LotR is from the 1950s. Diablo is from the 1990s. :P

Bah, figures I'd forget what I just read in your post. :?

In any case... I don't think that the Balrog in the movie was designed after Diablo, but rather, they are both based upon a typical vision of high-ranked demons.

don't forget the bloodthirster of warhammar, it too follows the classic image of a high-end deamon.

Balrogs is a minor god, it owns the Infernal. Of course it would be greatly outnumbered in any battle and that might lead to its defeat.
