At this point if they went and said this new Empire is being run by yet another clone of Palpatine I wouldn't bat an eyelid.
Honestly, did some comic writers get together and think up the best ways to piss on Star Wars from the greatest height possible?

Is it really that difficult to be original? I know I'm not a writer or whatever, so I don't understand what writers do properly etc, but they are paid to produce good quality stories, why can't they fulfill their job descriptions? OR is it that there's pressure by the publishers to 'do what you did when you made such and such, cos that worked'?

I would say it's something like that.
Idiot suits want products that guarantee profits so they basically tell their writers not to deviate from what's come before.
That's why we get rehashes of what's come before and shameless fanwank hybrids (i.e. rogue-Jedi-pirate-smuggler-bounty hunter-who is also a Skywalker) because they're under a mandate to design and write things that will sell.
And unfortunately the ignorant fanboi demographic is large enough to ensure that Legacy will sell quite well. :x

Ah, so that Sith girl still isn't wearing any clothes to speak of, I see. It would be funny (or not) if she was going to attack a crowd of people and they start giggling and snickering "tee hee, she's all nude!" and she walks away embarassed...

No, but I think Stofsk is right. She must be a whore. And this isn't an action comic or anything, it is a porn comic. That's why Cade looks like he's from the eighties. Didn't they say the comic would be more adult oriented or some such? That must have been what they meant... I can see it now
"Cade Skywalker subdues the evil Sith whores!"
There'll be plenty of euphemisms with lightsabres and cruising or exploring unknown regions...

Actually, they should do just that

That is the worst comic book swipe I have ever seen. The artists obviously copied it from the cover of an 80's metal magazine, or hair band poster! I will put the first issue on my pull list though. The moment Star Wars officially jumped the shark, has got to be worth something one day.

I said it when this first reared it's ugly head, and i'll say it again.

This looks like a crappy fanfiction. I cannot fucking believe they're making this.

When I clicked on the first thread a month ago, I thought I was in the fanfiction forum, and was utterly horrified when I found out it was real, and that they were actually going to publish it.

I seriously hope GL himself smacks this down and declares it an infinity.

Aye. The inclusion policy, that pretty much everything is part of the continuity - toys, comics, games... creates an absolutely huge universe to draw upon, even though certain characters and themes tend to be recycled over and over again. The same policy inevitably means that there will be parts one would rather not see as part of SW. Exactly what parts depend upon the individual.

I think Star Wars EU jumped the shark when they came out with the NJO. When the best way they could think of for continuing the story was to create some sort of uber organic alien race that wants to kill the entire galaxy, they are no longer worthy of writing more books.

True, the constant stream of imperial warlords was getting tireing, but still plenty to explore in all of the already established eras. Personally, I would have liked to see the events of some of the major events seen through the eyes of some minor player. For example, follow the exploits of a rebel grunt through the galactic civil war. Or even tell the story from the point of view of an imperial. There are literally dozens of untapped story ideas out there.

I'd love an EU fic which showed the GCW from an Imperial's perspective, ie, guy is horryfied by Yavin holocaust, joins Imperial Navy etc.

From what I've heard, the NJO is quite controversial in terms of people's opinions. Personally, I'm quite enjoying it (up to Balance Point so far), although there are certainly a few things that could have been done better. However, I was really quite surprised that they continued the story after the NJO, and I'm figuring that The Swarm War was the point when the EU jumped the shark, at least in that direction.

There was a really cool issue of Empire I remember browsing through awhile ago. Basically it had the Irrepressable Rogue stereotype (Han Solo clone) meet a hot chick who's on the run from the Bad Guys. He saves her and they keep one step ahead of the people who are trying to kill them. She's got information or some such that can prove vital for her side.

At the end she delivers it to an Imperial garrison who descend on the Rebel terrorists like the cavalry coming in the nick of time. The Rogue guy predictably gets upset with her for being one of the 'True' bad guys, which seems to disappoint Hot Chick because she offered to recruit him into the GE.

I loved it. I thought it was a clever twist.

Actually, no, it's not the individual's fault. The crappy quality contol makes it so that there are some parts which 99,9% of individuals would rather not see as a part of SW. This "comic" included.

I know people who would say that SW jumped the shark when the ewoks debuted at Endor!

You know what I would like to have seen...an actual "GALACTIC CIVIL WAR!" What we got was nothing like that. Where were the imperials that weren't dickheads that joined the alliance after Endor. Whole sectors must have joined the NR intact. After all they didn't fight everyone. But no we get the x-wing novels. A fleet more pathetic than the one at Endor takes Coruscant, and manages to hold it...sigh. Not a single battle occurs with more than a dozen ships. Why does the NR use mostly Moncal ships, rather that Kuat product. Why was the NR run by the rebels, when the most powerful factions should have been non-rebel?

Sigh...so much waste potential. Its telling when off the top of you head you can think of at least a handful of fanfics that are far better than this atrocity.

I remember seeing an old newspaper strip starting with the end of a massive naval battle between the Empire and the Alliance. Think there were dozens of Imperators almost parading through space. And that was just a random mention at the start of the story.

Did like the massive ground battle at the start of Rebellion 1, though. The artist has some problems with distance and perspective, but he cluttered the landscape with Imperators hanging overhead, dropships that dwarf Y-85 Titans, TIE bomber squadrons, AT-ATs, Juggernauts, AT-STs and even an AT-TE cameo. Got the right priorities.

I think it's cute they even call the post-NJO thing 'Star Wars'. Even the New Republic - the order that resumed after the Imperial interregnum - is gone, due to some of the worst writing I've ever seen. The writers actually seem to think that it's the in-universe entities at fault, and not THEM for writing everyone as a pack of fucking morons. Seriously, people who like the post-NJO order could just read random scifi novels.

After Dark Nest, I'm just fucking done with the post-ROTJ EU.

The NJO was flawed on so many levels, It used the cheap-ass sci-fi cliche' of "Organic Technology is so superior," It turned the New Republic leadership into a bunch of incompetent morons, and it had its share of crappy characters. But there were still some redeeming books in the series, some that were entertaining to read. I for one immensly enjoyed "The Unifying Force," and "Balance Point."

With the dark nest trilogy, the introduce yet another fucking stupid sci-fi cliche, the "overwhelming swarm of organic space bugs threatening to eat the galaxy." Don't get me wrong. Bug swarms can be done well. I love the zerg from Starcraft, and the Tyranids from 40k, but that was not what was done in Dark Nest. Not only did they use the cliche in a horrible fasion, but the author also introduced new heights of minimalist stupidity. According to Jacen's vision, eight space hives the size of SSDs was enough to "Engulf the galaxy in an eternal war."

The Dark Nest Trilogy turned Jacen into a self-serving bastard, Jaina into a complete idiot, and luke into a pussy who got his ass kicked because he had "Self-doubt."

I think the only two things I enjoyed from Dark Nest was seeing luke view the Episode III Holo-recordings, and finally watching him cut loose and kick "UnuThuul's" ass.

I second that. In fact, why doesn't George Lucas declare the entire New Jedi Order as an Infinity, so a competent writer will have an opportunity to portray "The Approaching Enemy So Powerful Old Enemies Must Become Allies To Survive" as a Sith Empire instead of the Vong.

Hell, the Vong seem menacing enough, so make them cannon-fodder in the service of Darth [Insert Name Here] instead of the villainous mastermind. (We've already established that the Vong don't have a working brain amongst them, and the only reason they were able to cause so much damage was because the entire New Republic didn't have a working spine amongst them.)
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

I didn't particularly like the Vong, but they were still different; bringing up the Sith menace once again as something the whole galaxy should be fearful of isn't too good as an idea; Vader and Palpatine already did it in the OT, then there was Jerec, reborn Palpatine, Disciples of Ragnos, Exar Kun, Empire Reborn, Kueller, Ismarens, Shadow Academy... Evil Force-users were just too common and became just as impotent as Daala and her ilk. Besides, it took a thousand years for the Sith to re-emerge after their near-complete defeat at Ruusan; now there isn't even any fully-trained Sith left alive (Lumiya was never fully trained to begin with).

The story could have been written much better in NJO, but at least they didn't bring up Sith empires out of nowhere, evil Force-users of the month etc. (coincidentally, this is exactly what the writers of this Legacy comic are doing).

I think the whole idea about the Vong was that they were not going to be some villian of the month, and that there wouldn't be a return to the status quo once it was over. Sure, they were bio-wankers, but they were interesting bio-wankers.

Unfortunately, instead of making them incredibly threatning, everyone else became incredibly stupid. Granted, they fucked up quite a few worlds and killed alot of people, but it seems that the EU writers are going to gloss over that and start back at square one again....

Indeed. I actually liked a good deal of the NJO, and I was able to forgive the parts that were bad (of which there many, although not as many as some seem to think, IMO) because the writers were at least trying to actually change and reinvigorate the universe by forcing it to deal with new circumstances, and even when it survived in the end, it would have to deal with some pretty major change.

It really pisses me off that everyone after seems to want to forget that the status quo was changed by the series.
