C&C 3 on it's way?

I'd be so much more excited about this if Westwood were still intact. EA had better not fuck this up.

I wonder how many of the old actors they'll be able to get back. Probably not James Earl Jones to be General Solomon again, I'd bet. McNeil's dead, Tratos is dead, and Umagon's been mutated beyond recognition so they're not a problem. But that leaves the GDI lacking in characters. Perhaps they'll bring back General Cortez? If so, Slavik will have to get back at him for threatening him in Firestorm.

Speaking of Slavik, I really hope they'll get Frank Zagarino back to play him. He was an excellent villian. I'm not sure how it would work if they decided to use the Nod ending of Firestorm and have CABAL show up in a clone of Kane. If Slavik discovered who he really was he'd want to kill him, but not even Slavik could mobilize any significant chunk of Nod against Kane.

Oh, and they'd better clear up the stuff with the aliens. TS teased you a lot, and I sure as hell would like to see some of that resolved.

Tiberium Wars? What kind of shit is this?

It's Tiberian Dawn, Tiberian Sun, then either Tiberian Twilight or Tiberian Night or whatever.

I had always thought it would be Tiberian Dusk, but the name of the game's not important, unless EA decides to stick the name on a game that bears little resemblence to it predecessors (I'm looking at you, C&C Generals).

WoOt.

Some of those Screenies look very much like they use the DoW engine, which I think would work pretty well with the CnC world with a few modifications

I was hoping for Tiberian Noon, since Twilight suggests the series is wrapping up and Night suggests the end.

I rather doubt it. Yuri's Revenge finished things up there pretty well.

I played C&C obsessively for a while, but I've soured on the "harvest, build, fight" style of game. It's all too often a race to see who can build the most disposable units and throw them at the enemy quicker, especially if C&C 3 follows the tradition of earlier C&C games where tactics are so incredibly simplistic that it's basically just a war of attrition.

After having played games which completely divorce the strategy side from the tactics side (like MOO2 and Rome Total War), I find that I much prefer that model.

Mike, I'd give Act of War a go- it's the harvest/build/fight type, but the unit relationships are really solid- everything's got a role and you can't just bulldoze someone with hordes of units (I know a lot of RTS games claim this, but Act of War and a select few others- like Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2, actually do it). If C&C 3 follows that model, it should be good.

And it's got tacky cutscenes.

I must say that's what made RA2 for me.

Well, there might be one more Red Alert game, something that serves to link RA to C&C, because Westwood apparently developed a timeline that fits the two together and explains away the inconsistencies.

A couple of pictures:

The first is a clean version of the logo.

The second is some art of GDI troopers going through a Tiberium infested zone.

The designs for the vehicles look great from what I've seen, though that GDI assault armour is just awful. I can't fathom why they designed it like that, it's like it's trying to out do Dawn of Wars and StarCrafts marines at the same time.

All in all I'm pretty excited about this though. Say what you will about EA (and I'll agree) but they will still throw a tonne of cash at it as they did with the two previous Middle-Earth RTS games by the same studio and they are developing it using a proven engine which the developers have loads of experience with.

The only things thats are a shame are it won't have Frank Klepacki's music, as he now works for the rival company Petroglyph and I'm dubious if they will be able to get Joe Kucan back to play Kane, which could be a disaster for the FMVs.

I'm calling it the "Space Marine Syndrome". I swear, somewhere in the gaming industry, there's this equation that says "The Bigger the Shoulder Pauldrons = The Badder the Ass". Hell, just look at WoW for your examples.

Easy. Those infantry are actualy surgicaly implanted and their bodies were cut off below the waist.
