Hello again
Since and Johnason posted a "hello, I'm back" kind of thing in this forum, I thought I'd do one too. For those of you who are thinking "oh crap, not him again," don't worry. I've cooled down quite a bit in the few months I've been out of the loop, learned to look at things a little more objectively, and become a little less wound up. I still think Star Trek would at least put up a decent fight against SW, but I'm also (again, as Johnason said) ready to learn.
Anyway, I'll let you get back to doing whatever you do, and I'll see around the forums.

How can you be back if you've never posted before?
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Well, two reasons:Surlethe wrote:How can you be back if you've never posted before?
1. I was that idiot known as Fleet Admiral Thompson who was here around 3 years ago. Made a huge ass out of myself too, looking back on it.
2. I'm one of the two who ran strek-v-swars.net when it was alive.
So really, I'm saying more "I'm back in the vs debate... kind of." Anyway, nice to meet you, Surlethe.

To me that suggests that you have been here before, yet your at 1 post. So my train of though says you much of been here before under a different name. So could you tell us what name you used, so we can find out who you are ?Captain Newland wrote:For those of you who are thinking "oh crap, not him again,"

Re: Hello again
I've already said I was Fleet Admiral Thompson when I was here before around 3 years ago. I've been Captain Newland now ever since the ST-V-SW.net forums, and helped run a site called strek-v-swars.net for a while.bilateralrope wrote:To me that suggests that you have been here before, yet your at 1 post. Thank you for your honesty.apocolypse wrote:I'll be honest, I fall under the "oh crap, not him again" group.
I was indeed sincere about what I posted. I was a wound up little squirt before, if truth be told, but not anymore. It's kind of like a forming planet, you know? At first, you're erupting in every direction, but after a while you cool down. But if you're sincere in what you posted, then it's a good step, and hope you learn a lot while here.

Just out of curiousity (unlike Vym and some others, I didn't hang around strek much after the first couple weeks so I didn't keep up with things) how have your thoughts/beliefs changed? You don't have to get too specific, I'm sure it'll all be covered in various threads, but some key aspects would be interesting. And what was it that started you to re-examine the issues?

Well, I guess I'll start with what hasn't changed: my stance on SW canon. However, I have begun to take a look at my arguments regarding ST ground combat, and I've taken more of an unbiased look at it, which has changed it a bit. Other than that, not much in any other argument has actually changed, but only for the reason that I haven't looked at those arguments yet, so they'll probably look different when I present them here, whenever that may be.apocolypse wrote:Just out of curiousity (unlike Vym and some others, I didn't hang around strek much after the first couple weeks so I didn't keep up with things) how have your thoughts/beliefs changed? As I said, it hasn't been so much a re-examination of the arguments themselves so much as that wonderful thing we know as growing up. I'm only 16 years old, but we teenagers just love to change all over the place, and that's been happening lately, and the fact that my parents just got cancer "helps" a little too (they're both going to be fine, though, thank God). However, as I said, I'm ready to learn, and many of my arguments probably will change as time goes on, but don't get your hopes up; I doubt they'll stray so far as to head over to the Wars side. Hopefully, though, we can actually come to one or two agreements on something. And what was it that started you to re-examine the issues?

I remember you now. You sent dozens of E-mail messages to me containing arguments so old and shopworn that they needed carbon-dating. Hopefully you've developed, although at 16, you still don't know shit about science no matter how much you may think you know.

FAT, FAT... One of the guys who worshipped Darkstar's site as some kind of intelligent analysis, as opposed to the angry, temper-tantrum induced scribblings of a madman.
As for your immutable stance on Canon, I would direct you to read this thread: Link
In which Robert Scott Anderson embarks on another crusade, this time against Lucasfilm employees. I direct you, in specific, to this quote:
That's the one nice post everyone is guaranteed from me. Learn from it, or we could go the other direction, if you'd prefer.

In short, your view on Canon and Darkstar's are opposed by people on George Lucas' payroll, who would know what the guy wants, since they actually speak to him.GL is certainly not bound by the EU, though he's certainly open to using things created in it (Aayla Secura and the Coruscant name, for example). On the other hand, the quote you provide makes it sound like the EU is separate from George's vision of the Star Wars universe. It is not. The EU must follow certain tenets set by George through the films and other guidelines that he provides outside of the films.
That's the one nice post everyone is guaranteed from me. Learn from it, or we could go the other direction, if you'd prefer.

He, he, he. I freely admit that don't know jack squat about science and am currently dying very painfully in chemistry class. No, I want to focuss a little more on tactical issues, but mostly I just want to chat. I don't plan to be involved in too many huge debates.although at 16, you still don't know shit about science no matter how much you may think you know.

Does this mean you've dropped you silly notion that the Jemmies could have used other Avenues of Approachs, specifically being able to climb an eight foot wall, instead of the bottle neck in AR whatever, and that a 'resupply' is in fact a 'resupply' and the Fed troops were not undersupplied?Captain Newland wrote: However, I have begun to take a look at my arguments regarding ST ground combat, and I've taken more of an unbiased look at it, which has changed it a bit. Ok, there are some things that I want to make clear about the way I'm going to debate here, just to clarify, not to imply anything about anyone here. First off, I'm debating on my own time, not anyone else's, so don't get pissed if I don't respond to you for a while. Second, I'm not interested in many debates, so don't be surprised if you don't see me debating that often, and three, don't even try to goad me into debating by saying "oh, you just know your points are weak." It won't work and as far as I know, not one of you has any telepathic abilities whatsoever. And finally, four: don't be like Poe and try to tell me why I'm here. I know why I'm here, and I quite frankly don't care why you think I'm here.

There's only two in Trek, the Cardies Mechanized Infantry Vehicle (paraprased), which we know nothing about, so discussion is worthless. And the Argo which is a glorified Jeep, what exactly do you plan to discuss?Captain Newland wrote:

I never gave anyone a warning for saying someone was a liar. I even did it myself once in a while. I gave people warnings for flaming while calling people liars, however. I don't remember giving you a warning, Servo, but I do remember you calling me something to the effect of "a fucking douchebag," however.Darth Servo wrote:I forget, were you the one who gave me a warning just for calling Darkstar a liar?

Yes, yes...you're here for your own reason...blah, blah, blah.
The point is you have not exactly made a particular highlighted name and giving something as vague as "Trek Tactics" is akin to going "I'm here to discuss Stormtrooper sanitation."
Poe is shooting one across your bow because it was a retarded sentiment borne from the mind of a witless fucktard, thus he's mocking you. If that gets under your skin, the newbies here will have endless time fucking with you and not giving a whit of respect towards your limited time.

Did I claim I planned to discuss anything? When I said my position has changed on that issue, I meant that it had reverted to either a "Feds have shuttles and orbiting ships argument" or that they have something to counter the Cardie mech infantry which, while logical, has no evidence behind it. Oh, and you forgot about the Klingon assault vehicle mentioned in Voyager.Cpl Kendall wrote:There's only two in Trek, the Cardies Mechanized Infantry Vehicle (paraprased), which we know nothing about, so discussion is worthless.
