Joint Operations - experiences/recommendations?

Post by weemadando »

Just bought it and the expansion and wondered what people thought of it... And whether or not it was a good idea (damn being sick and having time to burn before a doctors appointment).

I have both JO and BF2. Altough at first glance they seem to offer the same gameplay, I find JO far more enjoyable. JO offers vegetation where you can hide in and requires a bit more teamwork to operate the vehicles. I doesn't have jets, but it does have boats. I think maps are bigger too.

It requires a tough PC to play it tough, altough not as bad as BF2 (for some reason it takes 5-10 minutes to get a game started so I grew tired of it very quick).

I have everything maxed out on my box and have yet to see (during training missions) any slowdown at all.

The aircraft controls are a little clunky (I'm a sim junkie though) and I'm sure I'll get used to them.

It's pretty smooth once you found the right key layout. IIRC I use the keyboard (left hand) to go up/down and strafe left/right and the mouse to aim, turn and move forward/backwards

I find them more clunky due to the elevator between floors of a skating rink feel.

I like JO, but I find it very hard to find a server that has decent players in it. It's a good game, and much better than BF1942 et al, but it's got the same problems with idiot 12year olds, rambos, etc.

Playing a little today, there seemed to be a good crowd on the iiNet server. People who'd actually stop to pick you up in a vehicle/chopper etc...

I need to reinstall and try it out - I've never heard of such things on a public server! :)

All this talk makes me wanna try it again tonight. If I'm lucky it should still be installed in some obscure directory.
For some reason I prefer the original version more than the addon, I just can't tell why that is. :?

I love the dirtbike in the addon. Plus it has the G3... But there are really only servers for the original that I can find.
